Yeah and the only real meat recall to have happened recently in the U.S. wasn't because of e. coli either.

I just don't like to eat animal; something put on this earth to eat; breathe; live; produce. Who am I to decide the animal is less worthy than I am?

You're nature's bitch.

And Nature dictates that you are an omnivore.

If you think an animal is more worthy of life than you, then just curl up and do darwin a favour.

Plants breathe, eat, live, and produce.

So I guess you're only going to be able to eat like tic-tacs and shit.

But wait! They have sugar. Which comes from sugar cane. Which is....

A plant.

You have been pwned, sir. Good day.

I know plants eat, live and produce, but tic tacs look like tics (of the animal variety) so, I'm gonna pass on those too.

I don't think an animal is more worthy of life than me - I think an animal has an equal right to life as me.

In truth there are no such things as rights to live. Rights are moral ideologies created to show appreciation for life.
The reality is survival. All else is fuel. So you can survive or be fuel for something else to survive.

A large percentage of people are lactose intolerant to a degree, and they don't even know it. Milk, while extremely tasty, is made for baby cows, not humans. I love the taste, but it doesn't agree with my guts to well, so I just use soy milk for cereal/granola, and I just drink water.

On the topic of meat, I have no problem eating animals, however I don't like the inhumane treatment in a lot of the meat processing places. I would prefer to hunt and get my own meat, so at least I'd know it was somewhat natural, instead of the store-bought meat that's full of random hormones, etc, and the animals were probably sick and had random infections when they were slaughtered. However I live in Hawaii, and hunting is kinda slim out here. There isn't exactly a stampede of deer outside my house. Also beef digests very slowly, and can sometimes leave pieces of meat inside your intestines for a month or longer. Lots of diseases can be had from undercooked meat.

However, beef is also full of iron, chicken/turkey are great sources of lean protein, salmon has huge amounts of healthy fatty acids... There are many health benefits to meat.

Ultimately, there's a positive and a negative for everything. I have no problem with vegetarians, and can understand their reasons. At the same time, I LOVE a huge thick cheeseburger, and piles of sushi. I don't eat a huge amount of meat, but it's mostly because of laziness. I just don't feel like cooking it!

when i feel sorry for the animals i eat. i get the hounds and my uncle's horse and his lance. nothing like hunting razorbacks from horseback with a spear. gets the blood pumping and gives the animals a chance to fight back. if you have ever seen what a hog with 2 inch tusks can do to a person you know what i mean. and if you are by yourself the hog will eat you if he kills you. makes everything eaiser to know either you eat him or he might be eating you. this is how i justify eating meat. give the animals a real chance to fight back occasionally.

Many people do, but did you know it's one of the worst things for your body? Aside from the fat, calories, and cholesterol standpoints, that combination is one of the hardest to digest at once. Food combining is about our internal chemistry and if you do it right, eating turns out to be easier on the digestive system and you get the most nutrients out of your food (a lot of benefits to that). I don't eat beef but one of my personal favorites, pizza, falls into that category is well.

Well just to change things up:

I am a vegan (currently) and have been one for about 5 and a half years at this point and a vegetarian a year before that. I don't have any diet problems, and anemia and I have yet to meet so that's always a good thing.

It really comes down to what you eat and how much of it. Typically those that don't do well as vegans are those who are attached to foods that they previously enjoyed and make not effort to supplement what they miss.

On another foot, I'm against vitamins and supplements in the pill form because really they aren't very good for you and do not absorb well. A vegan can find all it needs in the foods they eat as long as they're cautious!

Things I'd reccomend are lentils for sure and tofu is fantastic when done right. We make a fabbbulous tofu cheese cake that is just amazing, it really kicks that sweet craving in the nuts! Haha.

Icy: From where do you get your B-12?

Nature's Path ceral is chock full of it as well as certain brands of soy milk. The nice thing about B12 is that we store a good amount of it and use very little of it, so it's harder to develop a deficiency unless you never eat b12 EVER. Which I try to avoid However, it's like protein and calcium, our bodies need less of it than the media (such as the food guide) encourages us to have. This doesn't mean I'm telling people not to eat whatever they like.

No, it IS totally necessary though yeah, it's measured in micrograms so just that little bit makes a difference and it does take a long time for B12 stores to run out under normal conditions. And I do find it crazy how people will hear something like "Vitamin A is an antioxidant! You need lots of it!" and instead of eating more foods containing it will do something like run out, buy supplements and poison themselves and then blame it on the pills. I just yelled at my mom recently for the same thing with Vitamin D. You can get that just by going outside for 15 minutes or so a day for crissakes!

I was just curious how you supplemented that because I've been wanting to do away with meat all together but was concerned about that. I think I'm still gradually going to keep weaning off the poultry and seafood, and might just stay lacto-ovo-vegetarian for a while. I'm aiming more for a sattvic/Ayurvedic type diet than straight up vegan anyway. Thanks for your spin on things, icy.
