Super Helpful Hair Care Tips

Some of these I've compiled from other threads . . . . but I think we should all share what we do to make our hair spiffy

Rain water= good
Blow drying=bad

After you wash your hair in hot water, turn the cold ass motherfucking water on it-- the cold water hardens the cuticle [or some technical shit that I barely understand] and makes it lie flat and look shiny.

When you brush it, start at the very top with the roots and press right to your scalp when you brush down. The natural oils get distributed that way and make it look spiffier.

Also, stimulating your scalp makes it grow better. So you can either stab your head with your hairbrush or get head massages [less recommended, the hand oils make you look greasy]

Dallantra added:
and never EVER use a brush on wet hair, only a comb. Wet hair is breakable and fragile.

Lillith Leda gives this spiffy advice that I plan to try:
A little secret... Trim your hair on New Moon if you wish it to grow faster, and on Full Moon when you wish for it to grow thicker but slower! The proof is in the pudding...

Please add your own!

I do want to know what shampoos have proven their worth.

I've used Pantene Pro-V regularly in the past; Finesse is what I am using right now.

Though I want to get more expensive, better stuff eventually.

Well for starters.. I "sort of" do that hot to cold water thing.. I don't -always- do it... sometimes every few days.. or sometimes every day but every few days (if that makes sense).. also.. I use a deep conditioning balm in addition to normal conditioner.. and somedays I use leave-in conditioner (usually on days I don't go out).. there are a lot more.. but I'm to lazy to go into details.. so.. hah!...

i feel lazy. the amount of times i've brushed my hair this year i could count on one hand. i judge when to wash my hair when it's too dirty for me to handle well and when i wash it i use whatever happens to be in the shower to wash it with. if i can be bothered, i'll use conditioner. if there's the 2 in 1 baby shampoo in there i'll be chuffed - less work.

no tips from me...

i use the cheap brand, suave, and i don't use conditioner, i use infusium leave in treatment instead, it's faster and it leaves my hair less greasy...

the only thing i know is if your hair is really tuggy brush from the bottom first to get rid of the knots then from the top.....

As for shampoo i use original source, its not tested on animals and it works great on my hair...Its pretty cheap too!

oh an another thing its ment to be bad for your hair if u wash it every day, its only ment to be washed about 3 times a week maximum other wise the natural cleaning oil thingies dry up.....

Dirty non-Americans!!!

I shower and wash my hair every single day. But that might make sense what you said about the natural cleany thingies drying up-- if I go for about 16 hours without washing my hair, it looks greasy [to me, anyway]. I won't leave the house without having washed my hair.

Shampoo and conditioner: St. Ive's Raspberry shiny hair stuff.

Another thing I do with it, in the shower, is while the conditioner is still in it, I take a hairbrush and brush it all the way through to make sure the goop has gotten to my whole head.

What's the beer supposed to do to your hair?

And then there are the people that say to wash your hair in mayonnaise to make it shiny . . . . . shiny hair sounds good, but mayonnaise sure doesn't

One girl I know is so stupid. Someone told her to do that, but she got confused and washed her hair with mouthwash instead. Her review: it smelled nice & minty . . . . .

I can't stand the smell of beer . . . . . the worst exposure I ever had to it was my freshman year . . . . . for school fundraisers, the local NASCAR races [literal millions of drunken rednecks, basically] will let underaged kids work the little concession stands outside of the tracks. Anyway, after a bunch of ungodly work, when the races had ended and drunken rednecks were streaming out of everywhere, my friend dragged me under the bleachers, but damnit! The rednecks were pouring their unconsumed beer through the seats and it got all over my hair and my clothes My mom wasn't happy with the way I smelled on the drive home, either

uhm that (greasieness?) might be a reaction to ur daily washing bcuz the grease usually protects ur hair...from all kinds of stuf...and when that gets washed off it has to be regenerated by the hair....so if u wash it off everyday the hair just gets these mega big grease pods in order to try regerate the los that occures everytime u wash ur hair...but it still keeps greasing ur hair everyday...so it's like an overdose...
well..that's only the problem if u've ben washing ur hair every day for about half a year..or a year...well a long time neways...

Um, when I do have the chance to socialize with others they usually say something like "want to go out for a drink?". That kind of situation has hardly any substance, so I won't let myself be invited, nor will I invite others. (laughs)

Let's see...

In the weather here, I usually try to wash every other day during the winter as the air is pretty dry and maybe every other day during the summer as the humidity is horrendous!

I have been using pantene lately but it seems to me it's not working like it should.
I have been advised by my hair dresser (when I can afford to go) to swap out on shampoos ever so often because one shampoo doesn't clean like another....
I don't know if that's true or not about the cleaning part, but I have noticed a difference when changing shampoo's for a few weeks or so...

I've also been told to not pull my hair up so much because the rubber bands/scrunchies can break it...
I'd leave it down all the time, but I'm so used to having it up it's hard to get over.

I have been told that regular trimming of the hair (every 6 weeks or so) will help eradicate split/dead ends and help tame fly aways....

Prenatal vitamins help with hair growth....As does mane and tail shampoo although I can't exactly afford a lot of the vitamins and can't seem to find mane and tail without going to the country and the finding the nearest feed store or going to the pet shops around here.
I guess I'm going to go at lunch and spend $10 and get my hair cut short again since it doesn't seem to be growing, it's getting hotter here and I'm getting frustrated with it again...

Here's my tip for those who bleach there hair. I used to bleach my hair every month for a year and when I first started bleaching it, it felt like straw. I went to my beautician and she recommended hair cholestral. Doesn't matter what kind you get as long as you use it every week until your hair gets stronger. It tends to make your hair greasy, but you can sure tell the difference after its washed out.

i wash my hair every 3-5 days depending on how greasy it is. or if i've gone out the night before and it smells of smoke i'll wash it. aside from that i do nothing to my hair really and it's in pretty good condition. i hardly ever get split ends and i'm in the process of growing it out [i think - well i'm not cutting it].

i really don't think you need to pamper your hairs so much. just let it do it's own thing and it'll survive quite happily. not initially of course because it's not used to after all the frying and stripping of oils you people sound like you're doing.

My sister was telling me about some thing she saw on TV about this. They paid this woman all this money to stop washing her hair-- she could still shower with water, but not with shampoo etc. At first, it was so blechy greasy, but after a few months, it was shiny strong & healthy and super-pretty.

As for putting hair up, I pretty much never do. It's up right now, but that's because I came from work and it has to be up, there

yeah duchey, that makes sense. it's what your hair gets used to. sure at first it will be icky coz it's anticipating that it'll get washed everyday and so makes enough oil for all that you wash off. but it'll even out and then be perfect without you having to do much at all.
