Weird Theory.

Theory I came up with several days ago.

I've read several articles in which scientists believe they have found a section of the brain that is stimulated during religious experiences, meditation, etc. It could be the section of the brain where "God"/religion dwell...

As you age, your perception of time generally speeds up, so that each consecutive year seems shorter than the previous... could it be that at the end of your life, this perception of time slows to almost nothing, and you escape into an afterlife area of the brain?

I found it an amusing thought.

One might assume that all of one's conscious thought could not be stored in this area of the brain, even for the millisecond it would take to equal an eternity to a human...

Reader's Digest for one... I saw it in several places on the net... I'd do a google search.

The first, I would expect. Every form of behaviour of the human species, has it's related brain part... Makes one wonder what the dormant areas are for, no?

The second, is a very good point. The escape can however, be accellerated, it seems, as some people have near-death experiences. I would think this to be the brain retreating conciousness into that particular part (and eventually, allowing the soul to detach wholly as the body no longer sustains it).
This would also explain why the aura fades, before vanishing wholly: The brain (the "power plant" of that energy field) shuts down gradually...

No control, 'till you start taking control... And that is where things get... interesting...

Regarding hypnosis, meditation, etc... you only gain control once you release control... you can not be hypnotised, you can not meditate, without releasing control of the mind. But once the experience begins, you have in effect gained mastery over losing control .

Not control of mind... Control and perception of reality. And that's a different thing.

woo hoo! my first post!

try this one on for size...

You say that there's this part of the brain that is active during religious activity, well, my (and others) theory has always been that what you beleive is real. Native Americans had visions of white men coming, and of great hunts and the such while meditating, so wouldn't those visions have come from that specific part of the brain? Same goes for visions of TVM (the virgin mary), christ, god, moses, and all those dudes? Praying is sometimes considered a form of meditation, so that part of the brain would either create these things to the person, or the brain would become more aware to the vision's presence.

This "god spot" could ultimately be the explanation for countless sightings and/or visions of religious nature... whether created or received from beyond...

I think I made sense

You got it backwards. As you age, each year seems to take LESS time, not more, so the 'end moment' would not stretch out forever, it would be gone in a blink.

But what if at the end of life it suddenly reversed? The very last seconds (or less) of life... and if perception of time slows down on an exponential decay, it will never reach 0, yet it will continue slowing, and never reach death; to those outside of that particular mind, time passes, yet not for the dying.
