cool

I've read a lot of the forgotten realms series, and some dragon lance, but I found I prefer the forgotten realms better, ever hear of Ravenloft?

They had a cartoon in the 80,s and I play with others from advanced D&D. There is a second edition and now a third I'm not so fond of the third. What do you want to know?

I wasn't impressed with the movie either.

I've been playing Advanced AD & D twice a week for more than 5 years. Shadowborn, Longtooth and I all play. We converted to the 3rd edition about 6 months ago.

Jordan, once you get used to it, it's actually easier than 2nd edition, and has some distinct advantages over it. Spontaneous healing for Clerics, and a thieves' ability to use sneak attacks when flanking are two notable advantages.

We've played some in Forgotten Realms, and also in Ravenloft, but mostly we've ended up there accidentally from the gaming worlds we actually play in.

I love the game! I love it well enough to give up my entire weekends to devote to playing it.

Oh, and the movie was terrible.

I've played AD&D for a number of years myself. It's a great release. I like the Forgotten Realms campaign additions. I've read all the FR books, as well.

With the right Game Master the game is never easy. About the biggest major fault I've found with 3rd edition is the lack of rules for called shots. There are times when called shots can be damn important, and we've felt the lack more than once. The rules being easier has actually left us with more time to develop the story line and character personalities. My high level cleric rocks in 3rd edition, because she's no longer just a walking bandaid, thanks to spontaneous casting. I also have a rogue with a 7 strength, who is even effective in combat thanks to the flanking rules.

That's too bad. Are you sure you couldn't convert her? I know our newest party has a gnome illusionist. I think maybe Shadowborn might have had to do a bit of jury rigging to it, but he's a pretty cool or character...

Actually, the character is an asshole (My sorceror/rogue does not get along with him... but an effective character none-the-less.

i've played AD&D since it came out in 1978, along the way i've enjoyed such games as Gamma World, Star Frontiers, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, and the World of Darkness. Then back in '98 i moved away from my best friend and the best DM i've ever played with. I miss it sometimes, the roleplaying and everything, but never have time anymore heh.

Forgotten Realms...feh. I do like the novels, but I got tired of the campaign world relatively quick. I'm glad they brought back Grayhawk with the 3rd edition release. I haven't played it in a while though, I've got my own homegrown worlds to run.

Sure they do...illusionists are specialist wizards, just like in 2nd edition. Conversion takes some time, but its relatively easy. The great thing about the 3rd edition rules is that you can build your characters just about any way you'd like them without losing the guidelines of classes. No messing around with kits, or a manual for every class (unless you decide you need it). No contradicting rules or unclear combat systems. All in all I'd have to say its a great step forward for the game.

Jordyn,

I'm DYING to play. I had a couple of friends in high school who used to play, and they were going to teach me, but alas, they were a bunch of freaks and I never saw them outside school, and so we really didn't get to play hardly at all. I'm so sad.

I had started this character, this little elf mage, and I loved her to death. Her name is Juniper, and I . . . oh, I want to be her again so badly.

. . .

Hmm, this is a pretty pitiful post. I guess the point is that since I can't play, I'm going to listen in on you all's conversation and extract all I can, so one day I will be able to play intelligently, (when I find some people worth playing with.)
