The first time I saw "Ace Ventura" starring Jim Carey, I thought it was too foolish.

But the second time I watched it, I was in the mood for a silly movie. Hence, I enjoyed it the second time around and ever since.

Although "Rocky" with Sly Stallone is a drama/action movie, they're were many humorous scenes in it as well.

All you bots have terrible taste.

Except the bot that likes Airheads, that's an underrated classic.

I liked Bad Santa.

Also Waterboy was pretty decent. Lots of chuckles.

Well that's a different complaint.

Man you know what was a cinematic milestone? Tropic Thunder. Should've won best picture.

Yeah, for comedies that stand out in the aughts, that one is probably top. If I were to do a top 3 I'd probably pick

Tropic Thunder
The 40 year old Virgin
Anchorman

Thats off the top of my head, there may be better.

Didn't see 40 year old actually. Will Ferrell had a really fantastic decade, Anchorman was his best but Elf, Talladega Nights and Old School were also really great laughs.

Part of the problem with this convo, and I was thinking about it earlier, is that comedy, like other mood genres (horror, romance, etc.) is more of a sliding scale than anything else, as opposed to most setting or theme based genres like zombie movies, westerns, war movies, etc..

Lots of movies contain funny bits but not so much that we'd call them comedies (no one describes Pulp Fiction or Notorius Basterds as a comedy for instance.) A movie like Tropic Thunder is, although amazingly well done, still pretty close to pure comedy, or as much as reasonably can be expected without it being a gag reel or standup routine. Like I wanna say two of the best comedies of the decade were O Brother Where Art Thou and The Life Aquatic, but they're more chuckle-y than laugh-y really. Another very underappreciated (I thought) movie in this vein was Be Kind, Rewind, which most people panned (I may have enjoyed it more due to the timing of when I saw it, I was going through a very rough patch and really just enjoyed the raw good-heartedness of it.)

I also liked the Hitchhiker's adaption and Shawn of the Dead. Zombieland was fantastic except for the two female characters needing so badly to die; it would've been a masterpiece as just a buddy flick with Woody Harrelson and Eisenberg.

Kung Fu Hustle was probably the best movie that was a comedy of the decade for me, although it wasn't the best comedy (that's probably still Tropic Thunder overall.)

And of course the Broken Lizard movies were pretty much across the board ridiculously well done, just behind Tropic Thunder in terms of comedic genius. I think my favorite was actually The Slammin' Salmon.

Oh, and while Kung Fu Panda was a fairly entertaining kids' movie I wouldn't really call a comedy per se, Kung Fu Panda II was, very weirdly, not only much much better but really fucking hilarious.

Shit, I forgot O' Brother was this decade, it would be on my list too. Shaun of the Dead is also pretty deserving.

I didn't dig Kung Fu Hustle. I got what they were trying to do, it just didn't connect with me. That's the thing about comedy though, lately with a lot of comedians saying a lot of controversial things I'm hearing them judged by internet media. Like a lot of "You can say that, but iti has to be funny" and "X comedian just isn't funny". I hate it when someone just declares that a professional is not funny, particularly when they have not a lot of knowledge of the art to begin with. I don't care for Dane Cook, but to say the guy can't deliver a joke and get a laugh is just straight up false. I hear it a lot, however. Dane Cook is the Nickleback of comedy, I think a lot more people actually listen to him than admit it.

The point is, I haven't seen Slammin' Salmon yet, and need to.

Louis C.K. is awesome if you have not checked him out. He only does his show and stand up for now. Interesting thing about Louis is that most comedians get a show and lose almost all creative power to the executives, Louis told them to go fuck themselves and kept 100% creative control of his show. Plus he just released a stand up bit you can download for $5, created by him.
More comedians need to keep creative control of themselves and their shows!

P.S.- Agree with DM, they should never have had the girls in Zombieland, Harrelson and Eisenburg were perfect and they should have focused completely on them. I just wanted those bitches to die, horribly.

I liked Hot Fuzz, done by the same guys who did Shaun Of The Dead!!
