It's not a gene. It has to do with cell-splitting...It slows down as we age, I think, causing the body to decay. If we could keep it at a constant rate, we should be able to stay young.

some yogis accomplish that by meditation..

by commanding each cell to slow down.. or to move in reverse..

I believe Death to be just an extenstion of Life. Many people believe in a life after death, and I don't think that is too far from the truth.

After Death you move on, to what is up to you. Throughout life you take in information. About nature, about materials, abour science, about everything you can. The ones who refuse knowledge are the ones who will regret their 2nd existance. Life is a test of knowledge in a sense. The more you open your mind and allow knowledge to enter the more enjoyable your 2nd life will be for you. But the knowledge is based on your mind, and not on a static scale. I know some people don't learn as fast as others. But maybe that is for a reason. In any sense, you should try to understand all that you can. Don't ignore an oppertunity. Death is around the corner, and Knowledge is the key to Life.

feelings liek hate, fear, jealousy, would never go away, they are feelings that begin within the individual....theres is no way to stop a person of being jealous, which would eventualy bring resentment and hate, hate is returned, and fear is born, emoptions cannot be hidden besides, even if all those feelings are gone, you still have love, and love spawns hate, and hate spawns many other emotions...

I don't think there's really an answer to that question. Your questioning the nature of .......nature.

It's like asking "Why do we only have one moon and not two or three?","Why are electrons negative and protons positive?"

Because that's the way it turned out.

We die because we can...thankfully. I would be sooo bored with such an extended ilfespan. I'm a little weary of it now. I plan to soak in all I can of this life, then see what's on the other side.

You just have to live life to the fullest, and if my lifestyle takes ten years off my life, then at least it will be the last ten

well you may not agree, but i personally believe in past lives, and i think the time we die is when we are ready to go onto another life, also our brains need to be cleared out in order to retain new information.

reincarnation is an interesting concept, but I can't agree with you on the reformating our hard drives, as it were. We only use such a small percentage of our brain's capacity...I believe in nothing, therefore I shall never be disappointed. The funny thing about past lives, though, is most people who claim to have them, also claim to have been someone famous/infamous, rarely do they feel they were a commoner in their past life...or is it that they just remember the more important personalities because they were more powerful, and thus projected their energy further into the psyche of the future "them"? I haven't really thought about this subject for a long time...hmmm...

Hmmm?

I don't know which book it was in; it was fictional....
But it was about a guy who started remembering his past lives; some of which were situated in the present and the future....
It was really strange...
It turned out that he was everybody...That he died and was reborn again to be every single person on the planet, one by one....
Wierd no?

As for dying; if I knew I had forever to live; I'd probably kill myself with boredom...
Was it Margaret Atwood who gave the example of a mouse that would shock itself against an electric cage just to amuse itself..?

first thing inhere... I believe there is sumthing as a cummon consciousness between people all over the world (ya know psychic thing)
and I have proofs from that as well... from my personal life ofcourse, not sumthing I 'heard' sumwhere...
I mean, I got sum friends with whom I am really close... and on sum occasions, we see thingz through the same eyes, if u know what I mean, we talk about sumthing we didnt mention but do know about what... that sort of thingz... or just thinking bout sumthing, and then the other one just answers the question u were asking yerself... (in the mind) all that makes me believe that in fact we already know it all seen it all, and that we are all just 'refreshing' the memories of our souls...
anyway... bout why do we die... ask freaking god or sumthing, he made us, didnt he? :-)))

well yes, it is veeeery true that alot of people beleive they were someone famouse in a past life, in all my regressions i have never been told i was someone famouse, some people like to beleive they were someone famouse so they have something to hold onto but they always forget that about a hundered other people were told they were the same person. also there are certains signs that can lead you onto what you were, that alot of people dont really pay attention too.

They have not actually isolated the "age gene" yet, but they have discovered the messenger of that gene... a protein string that slowly reduces the cell count throughout your body.

Think of the gene as the Timer of your biological clock, and these proteins as the mechanism that moves the counter. You need not reset the timer, if you can halt the mechanism. :p

But of course, this research is yet very limited and under its initial stages, but it's there. Of course, if they ever find that key I doubt they will release it publically during your measured time here

Also, I am absolutely open for the possibility that these Yogi you mention can affect these chemical processes through their exercises.

When we talk about why we die. Then what if we didn't die?
I think that people would end their own life at some point because their mind would overload.
Maybe a few would have the mental capavilities to live on forever....

It a reason why we die. clearwitch.
Because the mind isn't made to go on forever as it is now.

But what if brain cells were able to regenerate?

We might find ways of adapting, storing our memories differently, mnemonics for example.

If not we could have scuicide booths like in futurama
Scuicide would become more acceptable if it was the only way out.

Or would it?

*sighs* choice between killing yerself or living forever as it is... hmmmz, tough choice since I guess mankind will always learn more thingz, gatter information, become smarter, and so on... so life would never be boring anyhow, so why should I want to die if I know beforehand that my capacity of storing thoughts is infinite... I mean, I just like information and learning stuff and I already have a hard time to keep tracking the shit I'm interested in... if I had more time... cuz now I know that I WILL die sumday so, I have the urge to get to expand my mind the most possible before I go out ya know... but if I knew I'ld live forever... damn people, I'ld sure won't hurry to school no more... I'ld learn thingz on my own then...

Because what makes us up dies... and what we evolved from died... and so on and so forth.

Sooner or later we might indeed become immortal.. although I highly doubt that.
