Would you Watch TV online? - 04-23-06

I just read this article about how ABC is going to start broadcasting four of their most popular shows online via broadband the morning after the new episodes air on regular tv.

For some people (esp. those w/out a tivo) this provides a new opportunity to watch their favorite shows w/out being confined to the house during certain hours of the day/night.

Read the article here:

what do you guys think??

also, props to ABC for being the one of the first major networks to make the move.

I suppose if it works for some people, more power to them. Me, I like my TV on the television.

Hell no because my connection is too slow at I get capped at 1 GB per month (I'm on a crappy plan in New Zealand). But I know my sister does it - only because she can't get TV reception in her room. But if it counts as traffic, that is really crappy.

have you seen my marbles?

it actually wouldn't be that hard to take it off the net and broadcast it onto your Tv bro. For me, it would depend on what the show was. If it was something I wanted to watch but didn't get up here then I probably would have no issue with doing it.

You can look at it as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of human life, or just chalk it up to my being a sick, bloodthirsty monster. Either way, it's all the same.

Frankly, I think its a great idea. It'll be nice to be able to sit at work and watch the most recent episode of Lost first thing in the morning on my cpu screen.

Of course, a higher speed internet connection will be required, but I trust ABC to make sure that the streaming version comes through crystal clear.

The thing about TV on television is that you're locked into a certain time, most of the time. And you can't take a TV with you. I forewent the entire season of 24 this year bc I just couldn't commit myself to the time that they broadcast it.

Yeah, but with as annoying as TV commercials are, I don't even want to think about how fucking pissed I'd get trying to watch a program online.

Besides, I've got DVR for my cable. Record 'em, fast forward through the bullshit.

I'm not sure how ABC plans on structuring their advertisements. If they are there, I'd assume that they'd be structured to fit the interactive nature of the internet, if that makes sense.

I might give it a shot.

This technology could be a new way to watch TV...

I'm in it.

It's the "interactive" nature of computer advertisements that makes them so annoying. Like those banners which scroll down to block a good majority of the page if you so much as brush them with your mouse.

I just want a cable company to come along that says "You know what? The hell with pre-priced packages. You pick what you want to watch, and we'll charge you so much per channel, and throw the networks, news, and sports in for one base price."

Despite everyone's reservations about annoying interactive ads, etc. I managed to catch LOST via the website...the quality was there, the ads weren't as prevalent, and in fact, some of them were actually pretty cool.

I'm actually quite impressed...
