With the recent negative opinion of religions, will we see the increase in the number of atheists and how will this affect the world and the politics among various nations ?

I think there will be a bigger divided between fanatics and athiests and not much in between.

I should hope so. It's time common sense broke through to the Western world (even if it will not break through to the rest of the world). It's time people take responsibility into their own hands instead of throwing it all into the lap of some vague superior being.
Scratching religion out of the human mind totally sure would make some things highly impropable. And most of them are bad. Really bad.
Or can I not say such things on this site, with all these banners of 'God this' and 'God that' appearing all over most annoyingly?

For me common sense is realising that you can be religious and not push your beliefs onto others.
For me common sense is realising you can be religious and know that only you are responsible for your own actions (why else did we get free will...if we were puppets on strings there would be no challenge in choosing "good" over "bad")
For me common sense is respecting other peoples take on life (be it religious or not religious)

Atheist being non-religious. No self-proclaimed spokesmen of god to tell you how to live. It is especially the mass-concept of religion that I find threatening. Yes, it does start wars (although, in favor of christians, they did make huge donations for non-christian countries when a certain natural disaster took place - something I heard a survivor point out on tellie) and it gives christians, among people, a false sense of superiority and people, among animals, a false sens of superiority. Just take the following line:
God made man in his example.

Atheits, lately, are those that need and want to deny the Christianity...but my oppinion is that nobody can be a convinced atheist...because soul, mind and spirit needs something to explain the unknown and the things we dont understand compeltly and we cant demonstrate in other ways...at least you cannot confirm yourself as an atheist if you havent tried to study any other religions, as many as possible, so you can search and find if there are others in which you could find your own conceptions...

One can believe in the metaphysical and be an athiest. Or perhaps I'm not clear on the definition of an atheist? I thought an atheist was someone who simply does not believe in God or other dieties. Where does that state that one does not believe in the metaphysical (i.e., soul, mind, spirit)? I for one don't really believe in any diety, but I most certainly believe in the metaphysical.

I haven't heard of 'the metaphysical' yet? Could someone please explain?
Furthermore, it would be nice to see more people trying to find out for themselves and on their own if any such thing as a deity does or does not exist. Personally, I'd like to believe it doesn't and when we die, there is simply nothing; the end of our existence.
Unfortunately, I do not think that this is so. Out of second hand, I know otherwise. And there are way too many indications for there to be nothing 'between earth and sky'. Such as reincarnation, telepathy, hand-healing (if this is the proper phrase) etc.

metaphyisal is essentialy things that exist because when they are described an image is conjured, everyone shares some kind of general idea on what this thing is be, but these things have no proven physical presence. For example Santa Claus A fat guy in a red suit who is always happy, Goblins little green ugly things that are good for low level charcthers to get xp, the tooth fairy takes your teeth and leaves you money, Pamela Anderson's boobs because almost everyone rembers them being bigger and on and on and on
