I really wanted to put this in general forum but since it pertains to the news i guess it goes here......
Anyway i was watching TV today and during the commerical there was a news breif........In Germany(forgive my spelling and if i got the place wrong) it seems that some expelled student went and shot the school up......
Now this is what bugged me........The news lady made a defininte point in saying they guy was dressed in black.....hmmm seems to me that the colour of his attire does not matter he could have been in rainbow cloured fishnets and a leather thong....attire does not matter......Now i know you guys here at DF had probally heard this one and are sick to death of this topic.....but i wanna give my two cents too......I just so know where the all in black thing will lead.......

hmmm maybe i should dress up like Britney Spears or maybe one of the Spice Girls and go on a killing spree.....its a thought.....

yep.. I don't feel comfortable wearing a trench coat cuz it gets weird when people duck for cover when I walk through a room.

I guess the media wants to enforce the idea of black is bad. Or the DARK side.. or.. that gothic people are evil

He was wearing a white mask. does that matter? not really but it's a fact they inform people of.

Wearing black doesent even signify anything, everyone wears it. there wasent an indication he was Goth.

It's very sad - and very sick - whoever he was - whatever he's background.

Maybe not to people who know anything about goths, but the vast majority of people don't know shit.
Wearing black is enough of an association for them to feel that righteous indignation towards us again.

btw..I heard he wore a ninja outfit..

Another case of a teenage mutant ninja jackass gone bad...

The guy was, as a german newspaper wrote, "conspicuous unconspicuous". He was a member of a marksman club, that is how he got his weapon ( in Germany, we don't get weapons that easily). He had nothing to do with gothic, if he did, it would have been metioned in the news. He fired 40 shots; a witness said he saw him shooting a female teacher in her leg, than he walked towards her and fired 3 shots to her head. He killed 12 teachers, 2 female students, 1 police officer and two people who worked at the school. After that, he committed suicide. The media now say that he listended to Slipknot and played violent games. But they should realize that our German society produces insane people as well as your American system does, and that its not the fault of the arts.

Doesn't Germany have insane restrictions on violent games? like the color of the blood, no humans killed, etc?

That's right, but who cares? Everybody can get those games; you only have to know where you have to look. Really difficult to get are CDs of e.g. Cannibal Corpse: The early CDs you can only find in the www, the live album was published without some songs from the US-version and the new album is only selled without lyrics shown in the booklet. As if our society wouldn't have any other problems.

Well, I was under the impression that metal was pretty big in Germany still for one thing, and for another, the Columbine shooteres were labled goth as well. Despite the fact that everyone on TV was always saying, "No they weren't gothic, they got all pissy when we called them that" So yeah, it just sounds scary if they make him sound gothic.

Eudoxia, they might have pointed out if he was wearing different clothes, and they might not have. It all depends on what will get the best emotions from people. Did they want to make the scene seem tragic or insane? Frightening or comical? Had he worn THOSE clothes they probably would have reported it and then hinted that he had escaped from an asslym. Had he been wearing a shirt from the GAP and Old Navy pants they would not have mentioned it at all.
