| Ways to cut crime -
09-19-02
There has beena charter drawn up between norway sweden and finland on how to cut crime. The ideas are included in the poll above, which do you think is the best idea?
We already have national service for everyone from 16+ (including women) (except in helsinki where it is belived the 'intelligent' people live... bollocks) and this results in a low crime rate that tied into the fact we have an incredibly harsh penal and justice system.
But anyway, which do you think is the most effective way to cut crimes?

how about finding the roots of social problems and eliminating them, plus when the uk removed the death penalty the murder rate did not change one single bit and in states where the death sentence exist the statistics would show it dont work either. Finding the root of the problem is a good theory but it's not always practical because poverty and inhernet anti-social attitudes do cause a large amount fo crime. Public image of crime as cool forbiden fruit is also an issue. Gangster rap has taken a harsh amount of criticism lately, but in truth I dont think that the Citicism is too unfounded as it doens prevent an image to which kids want to aspire too
More police, Harsher sentences won't hurt in the meantime

Yes that's one way but put people on social benifits into work programs to earn their wage.
I don't beleive in a free ride and if they don't show they don't get paid, this should cut down on crime

One great idea about welfare I've heard.
Give a certain welfare rate; make it a rate as if they were working an hourly job for 40 hours a week (in US, I don't know what the work week is over ther).
Then, IF they get a job, for every dollar they make an hour, cut welfare by .50. Isn't it in their best interest to get a job? Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."

Not really, because it will still have people who Won't work.
Unless of course you mean you pay welfare per hour and then do Government works programs to earn said money....
Then it wold be in their interest to get a job as the pay is better

Some people dont want to work, so you have 3 choices 1. Dont give them benifits 2. Bribe them with benifits so they dont turn to crime or 3. Incapacitate them some how, like death or prison A gap To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I think a combination of 1 and 2. Don't give them benefits unless they blood earn them.
As they get an hourly rate, then they will work more and it will be in thier best interest go get a job as the pay will defacto be higher due to minium wages laws.
As to prisons, I tend to think they don't really work. 1 in 1 people reform but most go on to re-offend.

Crime will go up because of overpopulation and diminishing resources.
If you want to cut crime, you need to reduce population. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

the Romans were under siege every day by barbarian hordes and faded away due economic problems and a lack of military strength and advances in military technology...

I say though to stop allowing our companies to move off shore to 3rd world nations and keep our jobs here in this country. Find a way to return to family wage jobs, service sector and information age work SUCKS ASS! thats why its so common to meet many people around this country with 2 or 3 jobs. like me i work full time at the Union, then i work an additional 20 hours at night as a fuckin cashier for an extra piddly 400 bucks a month to make my ends meet. i SO need a raise, and yet i guess buying that Mustang GT wasnt clever was it? ^_^but then how many loser wil you meet who even refuse to do that because its "too hard" and rely on blaming the system while they collect welfare every month. Thats what pisses me off, i came form ppoverty, still live damned close in it, but since i refuse to be a social waste to my society i carry 2 jobs and make extra cash on the side.... sometimes i just think i should start to sell drugs again like i did in college....*sigh*

Well, you did admit to buying that car . Can't say I blame you though. Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."

how long was England on top? i dont think it was 500 years like Rome. | I wish I could find that damn essay I wrote during my sophomore year (before Gladiator came out). I showed my thoughts on why the downfall of Rome was Marcus Aurelius's son Commodus's fault.
Although, it should be shown, one fault was stopping a war that was one part genocide and one part slavery (I remember a quote by Marcus Aurelius that actually showed that he was out to destroy the tribes to the last man, aside from those that could be enslaved, and eventually absorbed, into Roman life).
The major fault, however, was his waste of money and megalomania. http://www.roman-emperors.org/commod.htm Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."
