| UK news: Man Who Killed Armed Intruder Jailed Eight Years -
03-23-04
Scotsman.com - news Man Who Killed Armed Intruder Jailed Eight Years
By Will Batchelor, PA News
A man who stabbed to death an armed intruder at his home was jailed for eight years today.
Carl Lindsay, 25, answered a knock at his door in Salford, Greater Manchester, to find four men armed with a gun.
When the gang tried to rob him he grabbed a samurai sword and stabbed one of them, 37-year-old Stephen Swindells, four times.
Mr Swindells, of Salford, was later found collapsed in an alley and died in hospital.
Lindsay, of Walkden, was found guilty of manslaughter following a three-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.
He was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.
After the case, Detective Chief Inspector Sam Haworth said: “Four men, including the victim, had set out purposefully to rob Carl Lindsay and this intent ultimately led to Stephen Swindells’ death.
“I believe the sentences passed today reflect the severity of the circumstances.”
Three other men were charged with robbery and firearms offences in connection with the incident, which took place in February last year. This is all fucked up. The socialist government over there is protecting criminals by locking up people that would defend themselves. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Pretty sickening. Let's hope we hear no more denial from the UK crew that their right to self defense still exists in any meaningful sense.

Wow, in 11 minutes, all 3 post. Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."

I think Great Britain can be considering a formerly great nation. After all, a police officer arrested this person, a police sergeant or captain went along, a district attorney decided to press charges, people in his office helped him prepare them, a judge allowed the case to proceed, and, finally, a jury proceeded to convict him. Afterwards, the bailif took him to a jail where prison guards locked him up.
I know it isn't possible to quit your job every time something unjust comes along, but there are a lot of people with dirt on their hands from this. As far as we can tell, nobody did the right thing. Even the jury, which should have acquited, listened to the jury instructions telling them they had to convict and did so.
William Wallace must be rolling in his grave right now. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I didn't see Peter post anywhere in here when Sir and I had.
By the way, did the guy with the sword call the cops?
If not then he was basically trying to cover up the fact that he stabbed the crap out of someone.
Did the guy know how to use the sword beyond basic stabbing?

So you don't think lethal force is justified when four armed men come crashing into your house? To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. So you belive that if someone is attacking you, a phone call is necessary to the police before you are allowed to fight back? To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

From a cursory examination of his post, I think he's asking whether or not the man who killed in self-defense called the police after the death of the man killed.
Btw, any of you guys see "American History X"? Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."

...a phone call after it has happened would be necessary, especially if you attacked someone and basically butchered them.
Plus did the man take the bleeding stabbed person and drop them off in an alley, or straight out ignore the person as he either crawled away or was dragged away unsuccessfully?
The article posted does not give enough specifics in order to tell if the fact that he was found guilty of manslaughter was warranted or not. (\ /)

This is wild speculation on your part so as to justify the legal lynching of a homeowner acting in righteous self defense.
From reading the article, it is likely that the mortally wounded felon had fled the scene and bled out in the alley. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Well, in the movie, the main character (who is initially a neo-Nazi, but changes, blah blah blah) in a very, erm, violent scene (the action occurs off-screen), uses too much force in defending his property.
I'm NOT stating that was what happened, as I'm lacking in most of the facts of the case, but it was a powerful scene nevertheless. Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."

A 24-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Pendleton last week.
Carl Lindsay, from Sandwich Walk in Walkden appeared at Salford Magistrates Court on Saturday, charged with the murder of 38-year-old Stephen Swindells of Rockley Gardens, Higher Broughton.
Mr Swindells was admitted to Hope Hospital after being found in a collapsed condition in a car park on Gore Street in Pendleton on Thursday 27 February. He later died in hospital.
A 31-year-old man from Farnworth and an 18-year-old man from Bolton have been released without charge. http://www.salfordadvertiser.co.uk/n...e_id=1975.html Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."
