Charleston) July 8, 2003 - An 18-year-old low country woman is in jail Tuesday night charged with running over her ex-boyfriend and his girlfriend in a jealous rage. Witnesses say the woman gunned her car towards the couple after a heated arguement in a Summerville parking lot.
Rebecca Oswalt, 18 years old, is accused of running down Curtis Stock, 17 years old, and killing his new girlfriend Megan Bowen, 17 years old.
Witnesses say the incident was sparked by an argument between Oswalt and her ex-boyfriend in a Summerville theater parking lot. They say Oswalt then jumped in her car and at full speed drove straight toward the boy and his current girlfriend.
Eyewitness Jimmy Burbage described what happened, "They had no idea. They didn't even look back. They heard the noise I heard, but they didn't know she would do that, because they didn't look back or they would've jumped clear of it."
At the scene, Burbage says Oswalt was so upset he had to hold her back. At her bond hearing, Oswalt showed no emotion.
Curtis Stock's father, Thomas Stock, asked the judge to show no mercy, "She don't have no remorse, your honor. What she did is affecting everybody for the rest of their lives. Our son, I don't know how to tell him that his girlfriend is passed away. "
The judge denied bond for Rebecca Oswalt on murder charges.
Megan Bowen died at the scene. Curtis Stock remains hospitalized in critical condition. Oswalt is accused of murder and assault and battery with intent to kill.
