While home from school on winter break, I took the SI (that's Shaolin, for all of you who enjoy the musical stylings of the Wu Tang Clan) Ferry to the city. While there, I passed by what was left of the Twin Towers (and an enormous line for the platform). At first I was upset by the hoards of merchants selling pictures, paintings, postcards, and everything else World Trade Center up and down Broadway. I now realize that there is nothing more American.

Dude-- what's this about a platform? I haven't been in New York since this summer & I haven't seen any photos/footage of the World Trade Centre site since W gave his little 'I can hear you!' speech.

I know what you mean by the merchandising surrounding this-- I'm the only person I know who had any supportive American whatnot BEFORE September. Now America is just sort of . . . trendy. BLECK.

I didn't notice any merchants. I did notice one fucking long line I had to wait in, though. Almost as long as Space Mountain. Don't particularly regret it though. I found Phantom of the Opera more enjoyable, though.

It's even more American if they're justifying it by imagining that they are contributing to the fight on terrorism by boosting patriotism or something like that. Most Americans are only interested in money, they just don't realise it, believing they are upright and morally sound.

I've stopped wearing the spiffy American flag shirt I bought this summer. I hate seeing something that I honestly believe in turn into a money making scheme and a trend. I keep my patriotism to myself, now days.

what i find amusing is that like 99% of the mutherfuckers selling that shit are either arab or chinese immagrants...funny how they could get into the capitolist swing so amazingly fast.

the same could be said for any friggin person or nation on earth, in fact why dont you tell me of a country that isnt only interested in money or material wealth..well come on im waiting.

Anyone here read Orwell's "Animal Farm", I find this explosion of patriotism extremely ironic when we are steadily losing/have lost the freedoms we fought for.

the flag covered everythings. the shirts, lighters, spoons, socks, towels, pens, pencils, erasers, wallets, bags with american landmarks on them. apart from maybe tourists, do people really buy that stuff?
