I think you were more a victim of bureaucracy than anything else, the judicial system also needs a huge overhaul.

I still can't understand why people haven't cottoned on to this, the US president was impeached for telling a lie but Bush Snr got off scot free on war crimes convictions..did this not make anyone think that the judicial system was a bit fucked up?

I really don't think you should have been imprisoned for what you did, whatever happened to "the punishment should fit the crime"?
Personally, if I was the judge I would have made you work in the book store for two months on half normal wages.

i suppose if punishments were more severe, fugitives would be more common too.

i don't think there should be private jails. that's rediculous to me. if it's jail, then it's no frills, government jail.

i dont want a private jail... i just want a private cell... give me solitary...

punishment should definitly fit the crime...feroluce summed it up well...our judicial system is too busy trying to put on a good face that they are letting the wrong people back into society on technicalities while people who just had a lapse in reason spend more time than necessary...

My brother spent over a year in jail for cashing a stolen check for a minor that then said he was going to buy them drugs...he didn't of course, but he did cash the check...he went to jail, and the kid continued on damaging a new truck for a lawyer, robbing a store and a variety of other crimes until finally they locked him in juvey hall...but at eighteen it's all gone, he's free and clear while my brother who moved away and has been raising his family since than has that on his record...even the local law enforcement officials thought he was wronged..they did see he got his daily mountain dew, they felt that bad for him...how does the crime fit the punishment there? because he was stupid and trusted the kid had permission from his mom to cash checks?

at least the cops saw he got some comfort....but what it did to him was horrible, you just saw something leave his eyes the longer he stayed there...

Thats the basic thoughts that kids nowadays have... And then you get the adult who misshappenly gets caught up in some juvies plans and he gets jail for a MINOR offense... The kid? Bah, it HAD to be the adults fault.. the other was just a kid...
I believe that it all stems from trying to protect the abused children. It was a good idea taken to the extreme by social doogooders that have there heads up there arses...
They yelled at their child.. poor child shouldn't have that happen to them.. Punish the parent for trying to discipline their child(who was probably being an arse anyways).
I beleive that they should LOWER the criminal age for adult type crimes.. Treat these kids in like fashion of their crimes.. Over 14 and commit serious crimes? GO TO JAIL not juvie hall.. Lets see the gangs work around that as easily as they do now...

i don't think jail is the answer...it should be a place for people who are unredeemable...some children do horrible crimes...but i think the scenario that caused the crime should be considered...a bully shoots a kid defending himself...does he really deserve the time that a kid who kills for joy should have? In the future the kid who killed to defend himself...could very well be counciled and given some anger and positive defense classes...however the child that killed to killl...what redeemable quality would he have?

The first kid would be worse off in a prison environment...and possibly do more damage...

Prison is boring. There is t.v., but only for a few hours a day. And have you ever tried to just watch t.v. all the time. It's insanely boring. Especially when you're aroudn a bunch of people who you don't like and sometimes scare you. There is also mandatory work if you ever want to get out, and the food is not good. It's horrible, and there isn't mcuh of it. While I was in jail we receivd exactly 2000 calories a day. Most guys need closer to 3000. I'm pretty skinny and I still lost weight in jail.

In short, prison is a horrible and demoralizing place, don't make the mistake of assuming that it is an easy experience.

They should make all prisons like the one you were in...
