Which just leaves one very important question:
What do we do with all the waste? Shadowborn To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Wow. Way to start of the the debate with a concise and well balanced view on nuclear power.
Nuclear power is awesome, the waste is a bit of a problem.
I think the best way of dealing with it, is to find a very deep hole, that opens out onto the magma, so that you are still above the magma by a sizable difference, and then dump it all in there.
If we had nanites then we could just get them to turn it to porrige, damned lack of nanites.

Must admit I have feelings on this subject but I don't think they are educated...what exactly is nuclear waste like? Is it sludge? Is it gas? Where does it all go currently?
Our country is currently trying to head more towards wind power - there is always strong wind in most parts here since it is an island. People are rallying against it because it will change the picturesque nature of the hills etc. etc. If people here are against something because they don't think it looks pretty, they're not going to be happy if it's going to produce waste that's going to go who knows where... have you seen my marbles?

Well it's not like we dont use nuclear power already, theres a nuclear power plant here in florida that uses the crystal river to cool itself, and the waste we can use as a weapon.

I think we need to be looking for alternate sources of power. Most governments, especially the American government, absolutely refuse to look toward the future of our planet as a whole, rather than solely considering sovereign nations. We're too busy applying science towards developing better cellphones. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

At least thats what I remember, I may be wrong.

I think they are kept in water until they cool down and can be transported away to somewhere safe.
Not too sure. | |

I hate to be all sci-fi geek, but there was an episode of Farscape that was pretty cool. Crichton said that unless the planet stopped arguing amongst themselves and worked together, they would be ripe pickings for the Scarans.
Now I know that's kind of lame, but think about it. What are we going to do if something happens to the sun? I know it won't be in our lifetimes, but what about future lifetimes? What are we going to do if we don't have room for everyone? Or if we can't feed everyone? Or god forbid we have an all-out nuclear war, and the planet becomes inhabitable. We need to be applying science towards the survival of mankind. All great civilizations have peaked and then fallen shortly thereafter. I say we take a page from history and start planning for what's next. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

That's an easy scenario to predict. The privileged will find a quick-fix solution that will save the rich and powerful, except that it will go horribly wrong for lack of forethought, and the rest of us will remain to fight amongst ourselves senselessly until the end comes.
