So when do you think lighting should be put up outdoors?

Personally, i think any lighting before the first of December is useless. I mean, that still gives you 20ish days to enjoy it, and not blind your neighborhood pre-christmas.

And i think that lighting should be multi-colored, Never just plain white lights. They are a stupid expression of sheep-hood.

Never less, i do enjoy taking a drive about and seeing all the lighting displays mid-december.

anyday after Thanksgiving, any day prior Dec. 24th...

we personally aim for lights around Nov. 29th....

a neighbor down the street put his up a week before Thanksgiving....that's just nuts!

I think white lights are very classy. Especially if you live in a large, more expensive home. My house would look trashy and stupid with multi-colored lights on it. How is white lighting an expression of sheephood?

Besides, everyone knows you can just leave your lights up on the single wide all year round.

when i lived with my foster mom we always did just white and golg it looked very elegant so i'm thinkin that when my house is finished christmases will always be white and gold.

as for the date thing between the first and the fifth of december is just perfect.

Oh yeah. I completely agree. White and gold looks so classy and pretty. It's a far cry from my super decorated redneck childhood abode. Complete with plastic reindeer and cheap gold garland.

speakin' of white christmas lights......all my life my mother despised colored lights......as a kid i wanted colored lights, but had to make due with white lights only......and the tree, very uber elgant....no gay ass ornaments......

anywho, never in my life did we ever have colored lights.....and now, the front lawn: white lights on the hedges, two big ole spot lights lightin' up two huge trees in our yard (purdy kool lookin' with ice hangin' off the branches) and one tiny lil' pine tree with COLORED lights......WHY?!

i asked my folks why, after all these years, they finally bought one strand of colored lights and lit up one fuckin' tree in the front yard.....said they're too old to really give a shit anymore......

it's quite possibly the most heart wretchin' christmas change since we got a fake christmas tree.....

So having several tree's in your yard(provided you have some), as well as the house should be decorated in just plain, follow the jones', white lights?
Whats wrong with one dressed in blue, yellow, green, or red instead? Why just plain, boring white? White is too bright when you overdo the decorating. Blues, reds and greens are usually softer on the eye. And much nicer in my opinion.

Again, i'm not saying add lots of multi-colored strings, But do something other than just plain 'ol white.. Plain 'ol white is just an easy way of decorating where you don't have to think about how it looks.

Truly. My house is a pewter color with maroon trim. It would look absolutely horrible with multicolored lights. It's just that simple.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I think it's retarded to say everyone should use colored lights because white constitutes "sheephood". That's a little illogical. If everyone uses multicolored lights, then multicolor becomes the norm. Therefore, people would be sheep for going that route. And white would reign the underground.

I'm gonna string my house with black lights. That'll be cutting edge. Plus, it'll make all the snow glow real pretty.

Ooh! Or I could decorate my house with strobes and induce seizures in random passers-by. Merry fucking Christmas.

I do like the white lights, but I think the blue lights look neat when paired with the white ones.

I'm a fan of white. Colors are trashy.

Heh, i live in an apartment.. i get my front door and a couple of small windows.. blue on the door, and a wreath. and maybe something on the windows.

I've always thought multicolored lights were tacky. Although, the use of said lights is usually the issue, because I believe they could look good. However, they usually dont, just like those icicle lights. White lights are nice... I don't decorate for the holidays, I'll wait 'til I host the holidays before I bother with that.

X-mas lights are just one big migrane. If you lose one you lose the whole damn thing.

I live in a row of about 15 terraced houses, and if one house puts up a whole menagerie of coloured lights, santa's, snowmen and reindeers.. well, it just looks bloody stupid.

Living where I do, understated is better. I think the grand houses around here look pretty when decorated with tastefull lights (pale blues, lilacs, white) but the small houses (when over-done) just look - garish.

After having said all that, it is Christmas, and it's nice to see people making an effort. When I was little I wished that people would light up their houses like they did in the States.. and well.. now it's catching on... for better or for worse.

I like blue and white lights. My christmas tree has the traditional honking-multi-colored bulbs, which I thoroughly enjoy. But when it comes to houses, I think less is more. If there's lots to cover, just plain white, with maybe some blue highlights. My town has something called a 'tree lighting ceramony' where we all tromp down to Main street and watch them turn on the first street lights of the year. And then it spreads like wild fire. Thats usually the weekend after thanksgiving. Our trees are lined with simple gold lights. It looks really pretty.

My room has christmas lights year round. White, purple, red, and green. It makes for good make-out light.

I always hated when my mother would do the icicle lights the wrap around the porch, the wreaths, etc... she's toned it down over the years thank goodness. And I got her to do colored lights on the christmas tree, I justed wanted it for one year but it's continued, and she puts white lights on this little decor tree in the living room. Now if I could just get her to stop putting those big gawdy bows on the tree. Gotten the little ones to disappear so I'm making progress...

I have both white and colored out in my yard.. white outlining the house and then colored around the yard.. and I agree anytime after thanksgiving and before x-mas eve
