funny, the right wing in the US has always been tied to religious extremaists. Jerry Fallwell is the poster boy of the republican party.

Where Jerry Falwell would ban thong bikinis from being worn at the beach, the moderate muslims call for women to be veiled and the fundamentalist muslims call for women to wear a burkha.

uh-huh, sure

if this is true, it wouldn't greatly surprise me. a great many French institutes of higher education already still practice some very harsh 'hazing' rituals, and any attempt to opt out of or uncover these practices is met with either a complete lack of help or further hostility. that's not to say that it happens in all French colleges, or even to all people, but it is still going on. that being the case, i can imagine what kind of 'help' anyone claiming circumstances as described in that column might come up against. but this isn't something peculiar to Islamic students, every kind of person in every kind of place gets picked on for some reason, and if those reasons became obsolete then alternative ways and means of discrimination would be utilised.

one thing i don't get is why everyone thinks the west is so great, we have our problems and cruelties like every other country. maybe we don't subject our citizens to inhumane conditions, false imprisonment, murder, rape, random violence...no...wait...we do do that, so again, why are they so surprised that we're not the haven they expected? disappointment i can understand, surprise no.

i'm living in France at the moment and in a very rough area - what is generally referred to as the 'arab quarter' but i don't see any of what's described in that article. if a woman stands on the sidewalk for more than a couple minutes she's likely to be approached by pimps on a pressgang mission but that’s applied to any woman and as far as I can tell there's no different prejudicial behaviour conspicuous than anyplace else.

This is not about mere "hazing", its about the growing influence of the Islamic fundamentalists and their enforcement of Shaaria (Islamic Law) onto the expanding muslim settler population.


The West has its problems, but travelling to the Third World will open your eyes as to how good we have it in the West. The world needs Western Science if the world is to progress forward. yes i know. as i said, i was using it as an example to demonstrate a hushing things up attitude in at least one of the institutions.

i've lived in a third world country and i've seen just how easy we've got it here. the catch 22 is that survival is critical to these people and before you can embrace 'progression' you have to be more than just surviving. the technology and more current processes would aid them, but to be able to adopt these processes they need to overcome the life or death struggle.

The muslim settlers that are now colonizing France and other Western nations are not starving. They got it easy compared to what they had in their homelands. The socialist welfare states give them shelter, food, medicine, and money. They don't even have to work for it though life is better if they can steal a job.

As far as the Third World poverty... We feed, they breed. The population bomb grows and makes for a very unstable world.

The US and other Western nations must make birth control a required part of any foriegn aid money. Unfortunately I don't see this happening until China has more global influence.
