Ah, the double-edged sword of technology. Nothing like having a device in your body for medical/identification purposes to open the floodgates for possible abuses of it...wait until the religious right get ahold of this article and start calling the chip 'the mark of the beast'.

I read about that several years ago, however at that time it was being advertised as a pet locator, I had a friend in the marines who said he was implanted with one...maybe the bible was right about some things...we are already under a number system, europe has a unified money system thing going(i've heard)I don't think nostradamus was correct, but some things are lining up rather scarey...good thing I've made prior arrangements

not to downplay the kitten traumatization, but how it would tie in to this topic would be if it had one of those chips implanted in it's ear...in which case...more power to you, but lets talk about the chips...do you think they portend the prediction of the mark of the beast?

Actually many companies are "poised" to be the first to implant microchips in humans. Pets have had it for a long time. I think it was called the AVID chip and is required for pets to be registered in California (I think).

In any event, many companies have this technology, it just comes down to the government to implement it. Luckily (and ironicly) the one good thing about Bush is his die-hard Christian ways should mean we wouldn't see it for the length of his term. A very good thing.

Beyond that, if they want to put a microchip in me they're going to have to deport me, I won't be a part of any such plan, nor will my future children (if I have future children).

And if they put it in me I'd merely remove it by force. These things aren't exactly stored beneath the skull you know...

They can keep all the records on me they want, but if they're going to be capable of knowing everything about me, they're going to have to do some work to get that info. I'm not going to make it easy for them.

Note: In the event that they implant a chip in you and you're too squemish to remove it, just take a magnet to it/stand next to the microwave/and lean real close to your monitor. One of those should scramble the thing suffeciently.

I doubt the whole ID thingy happens too soon... Not at least for another 15-20 years. Christians and other Bible believers are too caught up in their "end of the world"/"Satan's Rule" prophecies. They all think that these new technologies are one of the coming signs of Lucifer. I think they are calling these new ID things "the mark of the beast"... I think they've been sniffing too much Elmer's Glue. The Future is Now and forever until the end of the universe shall the Future be Now. I find the thought of a microchip implanted beneath my skin disturbing too, but things change. Whether or not evolution is real, We are making an evolution for ourselves... And people need to learn that this.

Yeah, but there isn't really a material that can completely shield against magnetic waves.

If you want to be ultra safe, do this:

Walk into a major hardware store. There they should have very large magnets (rated by the number of pounds they can pick up 25 lbs 50 lbs 100 lbs and so on) and just rub that up against wherever the chip's supposed to be. If that doesn't remove the chip from your skin itself, it should definately scramble the thing.

You see you've got to look at this from every angle. A company isn't going to use top of the like technology on over 4 billion people. They're going to use cheaply manufactured technology, which means flash memory, like that found in mp3 players. Flash memory can be VERY much erased with a magnet.

hmmmm...too bad nobody is around to do that...
