Palestine has never existed . . . as an autonomous entity. There is no language known as Palestinian. There is no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc.

Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one-tenth of one percent of the landmass. But that's too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today . . . No matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough.

Talk and writing about Israel and the Middle East feature the nouns "Palestine" and Palestinian", and the phrases "Palestinian territory" and even "Israeli-occupied Palestinian territory". All too often, these terms are used without regard to their historical or geographical meaning, so that the usage creates illusions rather than clarifies reality.

If that's their name for themselves, then so be it. The fact remains that they have been in that area at least as long as the Jews. I don't see this conflict ending any time soon. It is too ancient, too bloody, and too tempremental.

The Jews were there before the Arabs.

They have a very good point, Sixgun, which you are overlooking. Many people are on lands that once belonged to someone else. Our entire country nearly destroyed the Native American way of life. An entire society never had the chance to develop due to the invasion of...us.

Likewise, Britian as it is today is the same way.

Arabs and Jews both were in the middle east. Isreal recently got the upper hand in the conflict due to the US, and the Arabs feel oppressed by it. You have to admit that they do not live a very happy existance...

Speaking of nations never existing, there was a time when Poland didn't exist...completely wiped out and divided between countries on the maps...and this was for decades, as well. Did that mean that there were no Polish people? No. A nation is defined not by any drawn-down boundaries, but by a cultural similarity...hence the reasons for conflicts in Africa. The boundaries between countries are not the same as the boundaries between tribes. And Africa is still largely tribal.

In any case support neither side...its a war of attrition...its wasteful and its fruitless. What the hell are we doing getting involved for the past few decades?

Good fences make good neighbors. Looking at a topographical map, the natural border is the Jordan river. Such a border will do more for a lasting peace than any paper treaty.

Of course, I fully believe in Israel's right to exist and their right to keep the territory that the Palestinians are laying claim to. I just don't use idiotic reasoning to justify this position.

Well I just happen to be 1/64 part Duwamish Indian. Chief Sealth, whom Seattle is named for, was Duwamish. So I was here first and maybe Dark Messiah should get the fuck off of my continent...

Anyway, I posted the facts and backed 'em up with sources. I also pointed out that the Jordan river is the only viable border. Militarily speaking, the Jordan river is a natural obstacle that will keep a hostile Arab population from attacking Israelis.

Anyway, I really doubt you are so dumb as to believe a paper treaty is going to stop the Arab population from making war on the Israeli's.

The Arabs will sign onto peace treaty with the intention of breaking it so that yet another 'peace plan' will be brought to the table where the Arabs will demand even more land and concessions from Israel. Then they repeat.
If the US gov't continues to force Israel into these "land for peace" deals, then the Jews will soon run out of land to sign away for yet another worthless peace treaty.

I think this is the ultimate objective of those who support the PLO.
