ah, no worries about good old fashioned dvd's, *until they figure out what's going to go on with the blue ray format in the european union, which is waiting to see what north america settles on*. the poor man has no worries that he's got to go broke buying a new machine, to just rent a movie.
the price of blu ray machines is going down slightly which i think is a major hurdle they're over coming for their ideal to take over, but by video industry standards, not even a quarter of the stores across the nation have blu ray, and the stores that have tried it, aren't doing so well...and with a recession looming, who's going to want to by a machine for twice the price and limited rental selections?
no one wants to invest in a new technology that may in actuality go nowhere
