Apparently some rather "bright" person in the Georgia school system has decided that it would be a good idea to ban the word 'Evolution' from the science ciriculum. Now...am I the only one who finds this rather stupid? How can you teach the theory of evolution (I saw theory as in how the world started) without the word 'evolution'? The board there said it could be called "biological advancement over time" or some ignorant shit like that.

So what it boils down to is that a load of conservative Christians (Not bashing either, but thats who it is pulling this) want to not have any kids in that school(s) learn about evolution, or, if they do have to learn it, that its toned down and not discussed in the manner of it being a possibility of the world and humans being created by evolution.

i dont understand why so many christians think Evolution is anti Christian... if you look at solar evolution of the planet and our solar system and creation of life it can fit the old creationism stories quite well. Evolution can be "gods" hands at work.

Hey, I've heard they cannot acknowledge the authenticity of dinosaurs, so evolution would totally contradict their beliefs. God made the world in seven days, he worked from Monday to Sunday and then he parked off and did nothing. It's an incredibly literal religion as far as one can surmise.

no people today are morons, its not a literal religion at all, thats why Christ spoke in parables, 7 days could represent 7 billion decades for all we know, adam and eve could be tribes of humans. DOnt confuse the religion with what smalll minded gorupthink Christians define it as, they cant even realize that the "turning the other cheek" was actually not about love, it was christs way of saying to the romans i am equal to you. because when someone like your mother slaps you its usually with the bottom side of her hand, which is a slap of disgust, but love. While if you were to slap a stranger youd use the top portion of your hand and slap them away from you. as the romans would do to Jewish peasants. Turning the other Cheek simply meant youll have to slap me to you instea dof away from you because we are the same.

And if you ask any Educated christian they will acknowlege the Dinos.

Well, you've also got Tennessee talking about doing away with the honor roll because it's demeaning to the kids who aren't on it. I'm still wondering exactly when the United States suddenly became a huge collection of pussies that can't be held accountable for their own actions...

As for evolution, if they'd actually leave the schools alone and allow them to teach, people might actually learn that it makes sense, and isn't about trying to remove God from the picture.

Acknowledging dinosaurs clash with the concept of when the world was created and who the first man was. It makes no sense whatsoever. And there's usually nothing "wrong" with religions, it's the people who pollute the original concepts.

Along with the schools deal, I think its here in Oregon there is a proposed deal for "No Kid Gets Left Behind". Basically they are dumping money into making kids who don't want to be there, or drop out completely or to alternative schools, go to school. So, they yank money away from other programs (Cause that is where funding is coming from) and blow it on kids who don't want to be there. Wow....intelligent.

Actually, they have that here in Utah.. The actual purpose of the program is to help those kids who have learning problems, and the families with serious financial difficulties tht effect the students academic studies.. They offer help in tutoring and ESL for non-english speaking students(and their parents as well), and provide lunches and such, clothing, and things of that nature.. Basically giving the child a chance to become something other than a gang-banger or the like.. The program itself is not bad, just badly run..

Anywho, as to the whole argument of Evolution VS Creationism.. schools should really teach both, and let the student decide for themselves...
Unfortunately though, the whole idea of "educating" the student as the priority has been thrown out, with the importance of economic reform and "ideals" made the new priotity platform in education...
And basically (by extension) turning Higher Education (University) into a factory for degree's, all designed for the Corporate market.

All in all the banishment of the word evolution should not occur, lest we also start banning other things like..say....fusion, fission, creation, socialism and so on and so forth.

The removal of knowledge never helps.

I forgot to mention: They don't believe dinosaurs existed since God would never let one of his creations be destroyed. It was explained to me by a Christian friend I had who also didn't believe in evolution, and even went so far as to make an anti-evolution thing for a class project(failing grade on that project, even though it was intelligent and well thought out).

Strange how apparently God gave man freewill yet religion tries to take it away...
