The U.S. is in a war, and it's going to affect the elections this year. It already has in CT.
A 3 term incumbent Democrat lost the primary this week. That is going to affect both parties.
There's a proxy war between America and Iran going on right now, and we could easliy get dragged into it directly.
There were terror arrests in England today, which is already being used as a justification for more surveilance measures here in America, and god knows how it will affect the Blair government, he's been in trouble for a while.
I come to DF, which has a political forum, and there hasn't been a new post in 2 weeks.
WTF

I agree completely. I mean, there are serious things going on that are going on that will critically impact future generations. I fully believe that...oooohhhh, shiny!
Seriously, though. The prospects for the 2008 Election are terrifying. Not to mention some of the heavy handed policies that Bush is pushing into place. What is with the North American Travel Act? Frankly, I think that people are tired of discussing it as it goes nowhere. I do keep up with the news though.

This stuff really does affect everyone's daily life. | Joe Liberman may have lost his primary, but he wont lose the general election. he still has all the moderates in his camp, the unions and now the Republicans and Indies who dont want to vote for a lunatic leftist like Ned bug_Eyes Lamont.
The latest poll already has Joe ahead of Lamont and he isnt even in a party.

What is with the North American Travel Act? | I personally am glad that the lunatic fringe is coming to power in the DNC, its about time all the middle class blue collar workers figure out that its not the party of FDR or JFK anymore, its the party of Al Sharpton and George Soros or Michael Moore.
I forsee nothing but devistation this November for the Dems as they are losing more and more seats and control to the Republicans, I guess they still havent figured out that abortion, and gay marriage dont make a very successful selling point. And being the Anti Bush candidate doesnt mean you win, people will stick with someone who sucks but has a spine rather than someone who sucks and flip flops (Kerry, Hillary, etc etc)

all in all both parties seem fairly identical in that they cater to what ever group provides the biggest check. Neither is in touch with the average American family. Society has changed and the politics havent hopefully it will catch up before to much damage is done.
honestly Billy are you concerned about Gay marriage and abortion with everything else going on in the world?

After reviewing the last two posts, I googled American Political Prisoners. The search produced several web-sites dedicated to the names and stories of A.P.P's. Some of them are revolutionaries, black panthers, eco-activists, and native american activists.
Their stories are wrought with trumped up charges, frame jobs, harrasment, assassination, and unlawful imprisonment. Not to say all were choir boys, but there is a consensus of unbalance, and injustice.
Individual statements made about change and revolution are seemingly tolerated, however two or more individuals in association, can be labeled conspiritors, and after being evaluated by the federalies, as to their level of danger, can then be dealt with accordingly.
This is not to say that an individuals statements can not bring about the wrath of the government. There are many key players in the patriot movement, whom according to their personal testimony, are subjected to constant harrassment, wire taps, jail detainment, impending legal struggles, and ominous warnings to cease and desist their investigations and inquiries.
Without a doubt, I side with dyshades reservations concerning what is publicly said. Words can be twisted, manipulated, and taken completely out of context, much to the detriment of the speaker.

yeah the black panthers were brought up on trumped up charges. I mean, murder is a trumped up charge right? Eco terrorists really innocent? Native American killers? give me a break. Those animals belong in prison.

I would like to reiterate a point that maybe was not portrayed in a clear enough manner in my previous post. Not all that were jailed were innocent. I hope I did not convey that message while trying to assert the possible dangers associated with speaking a view-point incongruent with government idealism.
Some committed cold blooded murder of innocent life. That however does not denote from the fact that many were imprisoned unlawfully, on trumped up charges. Those whom were in the movement and in support of reform were unfairly catagorized with the murdering minority.
Now lets draw a line of correlation between revolution and government. Steering this post back onto it's intended conclusion.
The underlying fear, is imprisonment and persecution for stating ideas consistant with revolutionary ideologies. Any government with a goal of sustaining it's power, will try and thrwart any movement by it's constituents demanding change.
Lets not forget that this country gained its independence through revolution. 1775-1783.
If we feel the need for reform, must we fear the loss of our rights and independence?

Hmm so if some group of people has a number of cold blooded murderers in it, and you help by say providing funding or a place to hide for a murderer, are you being held with trumped up charges if you get arrested? I think not.

Aiding and abetting, as well as harboring, are illegal crimes, punishable by imprisonment.
During the radical movement of the 60's, those who Aided and abeted, as well as harbored fugitives were not illegaly detained. However, it's the plethora of people that it took to give those movements there power who I am concerned with.
They knock door to door, with petitions and proposals, seeking donations, signatures, and support. They hold demonstrations and participate in protests in order to be heard. They run ad's in the grass roots papers, decrying their struggle. They stand on street corners passing out leaflets, with current information.
Basically, a bunch of people who are participating in a manner, that is a right, for all American Citizens.
These are the political prisoners I am talking about. These were the one's that were subjected to injustice. These were the ones on trumped up charges.
They were silenced by a Government fearfull of their resolve.
Will history repeat itself, now that things are heating up in Washington? People are clamboring for a level of transparency within the government. If we speak of change will we be scorned by propaganda? If we speak of revolution will we be silenced?
