Usually there's a taboo about bringing a politican's family into the fray...so what do you think of this? www.dearmary.com
While the concept certainly makes sense, I do think it is hitting below the belt... Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

Added note that I have decided to stay rather neutral in the gay-marrage debate...as I really can't decide which side to support... Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

Pretty low class.
Cheney is doing what is right, even though he loves his daughter.

Thats a very tough position for his father to be in. There's speculation that his daughter is married to another woman currently.
The question in my mind is, how can you love your daughter yet do everything you can to force a breakdown of her lifestyle? Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

If your daughter is a drug addict, do you not love her if you are antidrugs?

Homosexuality is certainly a mental abberation, but I don't believe it can be cured without the patient's wanting to change.

In which case, a "Cure" would exist, and the "patient" would desist. "aeterna veritas" eternal truth Corporate Greed...

That would certainly solve their problem, but let's not be too rash.

With enough time, I'm sure I could walk out of a shrink's office wanting to marry a man. Because some behavior is maleable doesn't begin to show that it is a defect. Fucking your mother doesn't make me any less of a HOMO.

I did not know of Cheney's daugher and I did not know that she is a lesbian.
Now I am curious as to her silence. She must either agree with her father's position or (more likely) she is more wedded to her father's wealth and power than she is to her partner.
I am also reminded of this quote....

I agree,
But this is an election season and this sort of thing is expected. I don't think they will get very much mileage out of it though. For one thing, I don't think that Cheney will be running for VP in the next election. There has been talk that he wants to step down and I think that Bush will pick someone for his running mate that will surprise everyone.
I am thinking his new running mate will be a hispanic to tap into this growing voting block. The hispanics have already outnumbered blacks as the largest racial minority group in the USA and Bush wants to grant amnesty to the illegals. This strategy could give the GOP a huge voting majority in future elections.
The hispanics are big into traditional family values. It is funny how diversity will help the GOP on the culture wars against the fruity liberals. Just wondering, how does amnesty to illegals benefit the US? Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

Very little.
It undermines the American workers when the employers can flood the country with cheap labor.
There is also the population bomb to think about. If not for both legal and illegal immigration, the US population would level out to what it was before the post-war baby boom and that would be good for the environment. But we have uncontrolled immigration and the USA is being overpopulated. No one mentions the effect of urban sprawl on wildlife habitat, loss of farm lands, and things like global warming.
The Sierra Club backed away from discussing the effect of immigration on the environment because it is such a politically volatile issue. A certain amount of immigration tends to be good for advanced economies, because, unlike most native workers, they will work at crappy jobs for very low wages. The thing about the theory of 'undermining American workers' is that it's bullshit. Freer labour markets help everyone in the end, including the 'American workers' who might have otherwise done those jobs, because wealth and prosperity are created and therefore also new jobs.
Immigration is a problem when it happens too quickly, because the target country has to be able to absorb the new people both economically and socially, which is why the rate needs to be restricted.
