Interesting, although the second experiment, involving flashbacks, seems completely illogical in it's execution. One really has to wonder about the full capabilities, mentally, that other animals possess, and all the implications that might have.

When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

Hmm... - 02-25-04

I had a link to an article on a talking african gray parrot that not only had an impressive vocabulary, but showed understanding between words and their actual meanings...not just nouns, but verbs and more complex concepts. Now its gone, and I haven't been able to turn it up again. I did find this one, though, which is similar:

Budgie research

That parrot is named "Alex" and has the mentality of a three year old child.

I also have an African Grey, and he constantly amazes me with how smart he is.

That's right! Thanks.

I'm not much of a bird person (they don't like me much, and the feeling is pretty much mutual), but it is rather amazing the level of intelligence they show, considering the small amount of gray (no pun intended) matter they have.

My friend in Hawaii raises parrots...... they are amazingly intelligent..... he had a Military Macaw who could differentiate betwen colors and shapes..... my friend would toss down several different colored shapes(the type you buy for your little kid to help them learn the difference say between a circle and a square) and ask the macaw to get him the orange circle..... amazingly it would grab the orange circle and bring it to him.... thier average intelligence is akin to a three year old humans.... some i would have to say are quite a bit smarter.....

Try raising one yourself. They will bond to you. There are few birds that can be handled by strangers, especially African Greys, which are really skittish.

Ehh...I roomed with a gal that had a whole bunch of birds. Never did get acclamated to them, or them to me.

Here's a link to an article about that African Grey .

I'm more of a bird person than a dog person.

Have you not learned from the corpses of your bretheren?
