Do any you when you are scannin' channels, ever stop and watch TBN? In full, the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Have any of you ever seen that Pink-Haired Mutant Lady?? That bitch scares me.
And that arabian guy that has the giant comb-over? He scares me too.
I don't see how that place is so succesful when they've got such scary looking evangelists...
So this is the official, TBN "opinion" thread! I doubt this will make no more than 3 posts, but hey! It's something to do! | |

I'm going to have to agree with the original post. I'm a devout Christian, but my parents were completely lax about it growing up. Even let me go through my initial periods of wanting to be Jewish then Hindu (I still share several of the beliefs of both religions, actually.)
To quote St. Francis (I think it was Francis, I'll have to double-check);
"Go out into the World and preach God's message, and, if necessary, even use words." (i.e., be a good example, not a condescending babbling madman) When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

The only way to heaven is through Jesus..
What if someone was (In case someone doesn't recognise the language, it's hypothetical ) On a desert island all their life, they led a good life and were generally a good person but never heard of Jesus..
By the Christians rules they wouldn't get in.
If we now alter the analogy slightly and say the person was in a different religion or culture rather than a desert island..
They lived a good life and were a good person but never heard of Jesus....
They wouldn't get in.
In my eyes that's wrong and I don't think for one second that I'm more open minded than God.

Actually, it depends on how you interpret that passage. For one thing, whether or not a person is "good" is subjective. No one's completely good, obviously. And you can just draw a random line that you have to squeak by to get in. Jesus, under Christian ideology, who never sinned, died for the sake of everyone else that did sin, acting as a big Sin Magnet, if you will (Not that I think Hell exists so this is a moot piont). Now, all Jesus said was that, "No one shall reach the father save through me." and, since once you actually read the Bible in detail you come to appreciate that Jesus did have a sardonic sense of humour (calling Peter, "My Rock", for instance), it could be interpreted as a 'Do it yourself if you want it done right' type of passage, as in: "Well, someone's gotta die so you schmucks can be forgiven for your inept greed and laziness." rather than, "Worship me or suffer!"
But as Hell is just an adopted concept taken from Greek cults and religions, and not originating with Judaism or Jesus, I don't think it's particularly relevant. Where'd Jesus say that anyway, wasn't it in one of the Letters? When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

Typo, meant to say "You can't just draw a random line in the sand" When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

I don't think it's relevant either, the bible isn't a Recipie, its a serving suggestion, the trouble is not all Christians seem to understand that.
I was having a chat with a couple of guys the other day and we were having a great talk about religion and stuff until I brought up the idea that there may be other ways to heaven, they got instantly agressive, a real "raising Kain" moment
So far in my experience I have only met one Christian who was comfortable with the fact that other people had different beliefs to them, the others just seem to paint us all as damned.
Maybe they're just a little militant over here
