Lets say every living being was in possession of a book that could predict the future. The only problem being that the book is written in riddles and mysteries and is just a Pandora's Box to figure out. Half pages, pages that are concluded on other pages (but it doesn't tell you that), words written in invisible ink, whatever.
So then, do you spend your life trying to take advantage of this book, or live your life knowing that it's impossible and not try at all?

i guess theoretically the entire history of the universe could be read as braille off a beach somewhere, if you touch the right spots in the right order. still people don't try. plus, how will you know whether you got it right or not until it happens or doesn't happen? you can't know the future until it happens. you can guess, but if your guesses aren't based on something better than divination then it's not likely to happen.
O divine art of subtlety and secrecy! Through you ... we can hold the enemy's fate in our hands. - Sun Tzu, The Art of War
Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heav'n. - Satan, Paradise Lost
Rules to live by, rules to die by, rules to go to heaven or hell by.
I like that book that the guy from Back to the future owned. He had all the sport results from 1950 to 2000. had to go to the future first and pick his copy and then go back in time.
If there was a book of the future, we would constantly be changing the contents of that book because we would have the opportunity to change things. therefore the book would not exist. In the future, we would destroy the book because we would have been inundated with our fate.

If everyone had a copy of this book, there would be lots of clubs, cults, & other books offering various interpretations of the prophetic book, so one still would know if one had the correct interpretation until the events occurred. Also after every major event, there would be tons of folks telling how they'd known all along that it would happen, so I don't think the world would be very much different.
No, I wouldn't try it. You wouldn't know you were right until it was proved so what is the point?
By the way, who writes this book?
Fuzzywuggles. She can predict things before they happen. Like when the postman comes or when I get home, she is already in the house by the front door.

For the sake of arguement, assume this book would have just "Appeared", and got duplicated over and over through thousands of years. Though the text is still 100% the same.
