But what we pay into it doesn't actually cover what it costs us (ditto to Social Security), especially when politicians gladly take the money that is put into it and squander that on other projects and graft. So then we have to go into debt to pay back what we borrowed. The government's like a spoiled college kid with a new credit card from their parents, honestly.
