Because in the larger sense, what they do have is what others don't. Those that inherit massive amounts of money without effort are effectively draining wealth from society. They inherit the numbers and the paper and the coinage, but they represent no actual productivity or value on the part of the inheritor. But with that inheritance they can take the labor and efforts of others.

Tax money has to come from somewhere. Few Americans are really that bad off, but when you're still just trying to make ends meet and get yourself or your kids through college, seeing some kid that never did any hard work get a tax break on their inherited billions is more than a little frustrating.

Less than 20 years ago (before i met Fellik's mother) I was living on the streets. had the backpack and the clothes on my back. Prayed for a food joint to discard some old food things so i could get something in my stomach. Why? because i wouldn't stand for the baptist/prodistant/born again preacher going on for 2.5 hours before they would offer me anything ( food or clothes or any other assistance ) . Gov/state wouldn't help me because i didn't fit the "requirements" they set down. So it was dumpster diving for food!! WOOHOO!! the pizza hut threw out a supreme!!!!
You never been there, You can't realise.. took better part of a year, and somebody who actually gave a shite about people for me to manage to get out of that dumpster routine.. It's amazing what just being able to put down a phone number and real address can do for your life..

If you were living on the streets you "met the requirements" You clearly had access to shelter, money and food, otherwise they wouldn't have turned you down. Not sticking around because of moral reasoning isn't the same as saying "theres people starving in America" well if they're doing it to themselves they dont count as "starving poverty"

That's about it. It's frustrating. Inheritance tax should be about the last thing to be cut, but old money interests kind of have a stranglehold on Washington.

The situation sucks, but I've already pointed out that there's also no really good, quick solution to it. The best I can think is that we stop pouring money down the drain paying people not to work, and start investing in an educational system that actually lifts people up and empowers them (although that requires more than simply money, although money's a good start).

I agree with Welfare and Social Security. But Unemployment, isn't that money directly taxed from the person/company and put into a state fund and paid out of that? I am actually not sure. My brother is on unemployment right now after his last job finished up, he logs into the CT DOL site and it shows exactly how much money he and his employers paid into the fund and how much he gets each week he claims.

It is. I've been paying into unemployment for years and never claimed it. How much you get weekly relates to how much you paid into it.

But what we pay into it doesn't actually cover what it costs us (ditto to Social Security), especially when politicians gladly take the money that is put into it and squander that on other projects and graft. So then we have to go into debt to pay back what we borrowed. The government's like a spoiled college kid with a new credit card from their parents, honestly. They have no self-control or forethought.

Wait. You're suggesting scrap unemployment because the government doesn't spend it wisely? That doesn't punish anyone but the unemployed that have been paying into it and then don't receive anything.

No, obviously we don't want to fuck over the people that've been paying into social security and unemployment for years. But we can work on refunding that money and slowly decreasing those programs while boosting more important ones (like education and defense), instead of allowing them to continually spiral.

Don't forget the employers of the fired employee have to pay into it too.

If you're in "poverty" in America, it's only because you've made bad choices. No American has any excuse.
