| Ban children in theatres -

Quote:
Philly officials may ban kids from later PG films
Children under 6 at films past 7 p.m. could cost parents, theaters
By Athena D. Merritt
Philadelphia Business Journal
Updated: 11:28 a.m. ET Dec. 6, 2004
Scroll through area movie listings and the "SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" and "The Incredibles" are among movies offered in Philadelphia theaters after 7 p.m.
| I don't rightly give a fuck what movie is being shown after 7. Quote: |
But bringing a child under 6 to those PG-rated movies could result in a fine to the adult and the theater, if a proposed bill is passed by City Council.
| and it's about time. Quote:
The bill, introduced by City Councilman James Kenney seeks to ban adults from bringing children under 6 to a movie after 7 p.m. unless it is G-rated.
"This is a concern [Kenney] has had for years. It's legislation he thinks is appropriate -- it's not out of line with other legislation we do to facilitate the quality of life for residents of the city," said John Hawkins, a spokesman from Kenney's office.
| It's more than appropriate. Quote: |
An adult who brings a child to a movie with a rating other than G after p.m. would be fined up to $50; the theater would be fined up to $300.
| The fines are too low. Quote: |
"I think anybody who went to see 'Spiderman' at 9 at night and had a screaming baby next to them can appreciate why this bill should be looked at," Hawkins said.
| YES!!!!!! Quote:
Councilman Rick Mariano, who co-sponsored the bill along with Councilman Frank DiCicco, agreed.
"I think it's a common sense idea that should've been coming a long time ago, especially when it's a [PG] movie," Mariano said.
| It should have been federal law years ago. Quote: |
But the decision is one some theater chains argue should be left up to parents.
| Unlike too many parents, I was responsible about it. My ex-wife and I never took my daughter to a movie theatre. If we didn't have a babysitter, we didn't go to a movie. Taking a baby to a movie theatre is the height of rudeness. Quote: |
"From our point of view we have not experienced any problems or issues in regards to young children being in our theaters after 7 p.m.," Dick Westerling, vice president of marketing for Regal Entertainment, said.
| WOW!! I got away with it. I'm one of the loudmouthed assholes who will stand up in a theatre and tell people to SHUT THE FUCK UP when they are being rude assholes. I've done it several times at the Regal cinema near my home. Several weeks ago I told a couple to TAKE THAT FUCKING BABY OUT OF HERE! Twice. When I pay to see King Arthur, at 10PM, I should not have to deal with some dumb fucking asshole with a screaming baby. BTW I've discovered from experience that asking politely doesn't work, so now I go straight for the 4 letter words and enraged tone of voice.
This is a pure bullshit statement from Regal.
Nazis have a time and place. A good place for Nazis is at the front doors of the movie theatre. I'd like to see Nazis, wearing black SS uniforms, turning away rude and inconsiderate parents who bring babies to the theatre.
I hope this idea spreads beyond Philadelphia. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6660294

Isn't it the parent's choice? Or shouldn't it be?

Sure ,I can understand that but still...
I do however wonder why a parent would have a child under the age of 6 awake past 7pm. Shouldn't it be bedtime by then?

WHY?! | Stand up and tell them to shut the fuck up. The more of them there are, the more insane you have to appear. It works, and so far, I've never been confronted when leaving the theatre. That kind of sucks. There were a few times I was wanting a confrontation.

Oh lord, Synikul, I appear to agree with you.
My five year old has just started going to the cinema as up until recently she wouldn't have shut up and sit still long enough. Even now I stuff her with pop corn the whole time.
Kids that cry and make noise can't be enjoying the film, and if the parents want to see something but can't get a sitter, wait until it comes out on DVD, like we have for the last five years. I agree with everything Synikul said in his original post. Yes, it's a shame that a lot of parents don't really get to get out much and all, but it is extremely rude and inconsiderate that they do that (bring little kids to the movies), especially when the children start making a lot of noise and they REFUSE to remove themselves from the theatre area.
I also agree with the restrictions on what kids can see. Yeah, parents are ultimately in charge of what their kids see and hear. The problem I noticed is a lot of parents these days are seeming less concerned about what their children are exposed to and more set on allowing them to get their own way and/or not be "left out" when it comes to what their friends are allowed to do. That's fucking stupid, if you ask me. Especially with some of the stuff (okay, a LOT of it) that floats around in the media today...kids grow up fast enough as it is; why push them any faster? The rating system is there for a reason.
On both counts of the noise and the ratings: If parents are really that intent on letting their children see whatever they damn well please, then perhaps they should do it in the privacy of their own home. Wouldn't it be easier to create a '6' cert. for films for theatres that have that problem? Thanks. Find out exactly what to think, next.

Never experienced those problems. About the worst case I`ve ever had was this middle aged women laughing right next to me at a fight scene in Lord of the Rings. Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

i support it, if i won't subject other people to my extremely active and figety children trying to watch a movie, i don't appreciate those who won't show me the same consideration...
as a matter of fact, we haven't taken our children to a movie in several years, last time mia spent the whole hour and half running laps around the theatre...and i got stuck watching the movie
i guess she wasn't to impressed with the Road to ElDorado...but i found it cute. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

| A movie like that is the only time I don't get pissed. My girl is five and behaves pretty well in a theatre. When I take her to a kids movie on a Saturday afternoon, you have to expect noisy kids. That's when it's appropriate to bring them. I don't get pissed at those shows unless something totally outrageous happens. | |

Well.. I had a problem like that. My ex has a 3 year old kid.. at the least, he has an affinity to watch movies, so as long as he had mom and pop corn at his side, he would be still. but there was times when he was just cranky and unruly.. and I was a bit embarrased. oh well, that happens when you get to date Milf's. Anger that burst out of nothing, for evolution I shall charge into uncertainty's promised land. it's been a pleasure, but I think I am gone... look, i dislike annoying people in theatres just as much as the next bloke, but this ordinance is not only unenforcible, it'll no doubt be struck down the day after they even TRY to put it into affect.
what right does a city have to say to which showings a legal guardian can take their kids to... especially if its a blanket statement that says ALL children are banned, not just the annoying ones.

the only time i dont mind listening to screaming/crying kids is when im at a kids movie..any other time i think they should be bloody banned. round my area a ticket to see a movie costs £5.90 which may not seem like a lot but once you've paid bus fair (i cant drive) and buy your junk it usually comes to around £15 just to see a movie, and i aint paying all that to have to sit and listen to a whiney assed little shit because its owner couldnt be assed finding a baby sister. If the kid is loud then I have a problem, but a little fidgeting I can handle, because I find it tough to sit still too.

my b/f has the perfect solution for that. if they are in front of him he punches them in the back of their head. and if they are behind him he punches them in the face..luckily he hasn't needed to do that since we started going out, but i have to admit i'd love to see him do it just to see the look on the other persons face...
i remember when i went to see the second lord of the rings film with my mother and sister, my sister was stuck next to some girl who talked for the first hour of the film, normally my sister is the most non agressive person in the world but she was ready to smack this person. she eventualy told the pair to shut up, which didnt work and when the film was finished she tried to trip me and my sister up by sticking her leg out so i kicked it!!
