Police: Naked man killed while attacking officer

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS | A bloodied, naked man armed with a knife rolled over one police car and was shot and killed by a second officer whose patrol car side window was smashed by the attacker, police said.

An officer shot Dan Bucci, 19, of Mayfield Heights, after he attacked her with a knife before dawn Thursday in this Cleveland suburb.

He died Friday of a gunshot wound to the abdomen at Hillcrest Hospital, said Cuyahoga County Coroner Elizabeth Balraj.

Residents called police about a nude man running down the street, smashing house windows with his fists and shouting ‘‘call the police,’’ according to Detective Doug Suydam.

Police said Bucci had stabbed himself in the throat and torso. When police arrived, Bucci jumped on and rolled over one patrol car, Suydam said.

Next, he put his fist through the driver’s window of another patrol car and began stabbing at the officer. Suydam said the officer was not injured.

Bucci’s father, Fred, said his son had been using hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Frankly why should they. He was odviously a worthless drug addict and now he's dead. I'm not crying, and honestly I dont think we really lost much.

That comment was just so uninsightful(wd?) I can barely bring myself to respond. You know nothing of the value of life? or the complex network of separation, cause and effect? How can you presume how much was lost, and by whom, in the death of Dan Bucci?

Everyone is feeling bad for the guy who killed himself. Well what about the police officers that had to deal with these "suicide by police" cases?

I mean really! If someone wants to kill themselves, then just do it. Don't put the cops through such grief.

Yeah sure, that's fucked too. I just hate the ignorant concept of 'the homeless, disabled, addicted, poor etc. being of less worth then anyone else'.

I would say hateful rather than ignorant.

It's also true that we all have our own lives to live. If some people want to destroy themselves, then fine! It's there life to do with as they will. Just don't go making everyone else miserable too.

But if our path crosses that of another in need don't we have a humane duty of compassion and aide.

If they want help, then sure.

But if they don't want help, then you gotta just live and let die.

I would say that one could not help those who refuse to help themselves. But it is rather cold to just say "live and let die".

BTW, you must like that song.

All I'm saying is that if they're going to front their site with that statement, they should back it up. Otherwise they should just change it to read, "Hey, get all fucked up on drugs and then come here and chat."

You'll forgive me if I don't share that sentiment. There are over six billion of us on the planet. A few losses here and there really aren't going to have that large an impact on the general population at large.
