The government of America is becoming slightly fascist in nature. I pity you if you can't see the control methods which they use; the terror warning levels...the new laws that allow the average citizen's privacy to be invaded without a warrent or other court order...

Republicans aren't ultra-conservative. Republicans are, for the most part, half-assed conservatives who don't back up their beliefs, same as Democrats (only replace instances of the word "conservative" with the word "liberal). Assuming, of course, we're discussing the politicians.

As for fascism, fascism is fascism. It has a wide range of incarnations and definitions, including the literal one which is the promotion of the Italian Empire. Either way, it's neither inherently conservative or inherently liberal. The KKK used to be conservative, because they wanted to stop things from changing. Now they're liberal, because things are different and they want to change them to what they think is right.

I already put something up on another topic about fascism/socialism, but I'll put it here as well.

Fascism does share some traits with socialism, but also has crucial diffferences. Fascism involves big government in the sense of high levels of public spending, but it does not invlove, on principle, state ownership of industry and business. In fact it was closely tied to big private business. This is very unsocialist. Aside from economics, fascism and socialism are very different, for example with fascism being ultra-nationalistic and socialism being anti-nationalistic. The fact that the Nazis chose to call themsleves National Socialists does not make them anything like proper socialists, though there were some influences.



Anyway, as for the US becoming fascist, that would be a little far fetched imo, though I think the government shares the traits of nationalism, conservatism, ties to big business and so on. You have to remember who the fascist were and what they did - they tried to create vast empires for themselves over people they felt were inferior and worthless. I don't believe the republicans are racists (though doubtless some are) and I don't believe that Bush is trying to create an empire for the US, though I'm sure some might disagree. Something for another thread though. Just because they, like the Nazis, could be called far-right does not make them the same. It's not that simple.


Btw, I don't think a liberal is simply someone who wants change (i.e. the opposite of a conservative). The KKK are not liberals. Liberals believe in permissive policies and broad laissez-faire, and are distinct from the hard right and the hard left, who both tend to favour government control.


People shouldn't think of politics as a stright line between left and right. Describing t as a triangle or a circle is better, but they're all approximate models. You have to look at the details.

Okay, so has been a common trait wihin Fascism is racism, or the belief that your race is naturally superior.

A perfect example of this belief was demonstrated by Charles Darwin;
which would therefore led one to the conclusion that Darwin was quite possibly a Fascist American.

So, to the real question, is America becoming Fascist ?
In my belief, Fascism will become a natural progression from Capitalism, within the merging of (Private) Big Business and State Control, as is already being seen in America, where the divide between the two is increasingnly more hazy.

So, in my belief, America is slowly heading towards a state of Fascism, though this form of fascism is unique in its own right (Differing to that of Mussolini's or Hitler's forms of fascism),
as it is the natural progression of a Capitalist state which no social control.

Here are some definitions of the word fascism and fascist:

Fascism: totalitarian government lead by dictator emphasizing aggressive militarism, sometimes racism.

Fascist: Person who is dictorial or extreme views, often right-wing.

Person believes in fascism or involved in fascist movement.


Considering the 1950's, the USA is really still less fascist. However, it does seem to be going that way again.

Then again if you think about it the levels of government are all divided up to help prevent a dictatorship and most people do not feel inclined to act or dress specifically for nationalism.

I will have to say "No." The USA is doing its usual influx of power.
