Tehran, Oct. 30 - Zhila Izadyar, the 13-year-old schoolgirl from the Iranian town of Marivan (north-western Iran) who is sentenced to be stoned to death is reported to be in poor health after she was lashed 55 times in prison.

Azad Zamani of the Society for the Protection of Children’s Rights has said that Zhila’s health has been rapidly deteriorating.

Zamani has managed to visit Zhila although under close supervision of the Iranian regime’s agents. Zamani stated that Zhila said, “I am scared; I want to go home; I want to be able to go back to school like other kids”.

Zhila was convicted of having an incestuous relationship with her 15-year-old brother and giving birth to an illegitimate child.

Zhila is reported to have been in a very bad state while she has had to spend time in solitary confinement under close guard. Zamani had reported that Zhila now has a very bad eating pattern and she constantly vomits.

Another source, who wished not to be named, said that Zhila has been beaten by guards while she in jail and has not been allowed to see her newborn child.

Reports have also come out that Zhila’s brother Bakhtiar has also been flogged in prison. Zhila faces death by stoning while Bakhtiar faces 150 lashes as well as prison time, according to the clerical judge who issued their verdict.

A girl gets raped by her big brother. So she gets the beating and then she gets stoned. Is this an example of Islamic mercy?

That sucks. Although it states in your article that she was with her brother via incest and not rape. I still think its bad either way, they are children. I like it how the girl gets put to death and boy gets a whipping. Women fought for equal rights and she should have an opportunity to appeal that verdict. I thought America would have a say in that? Im not having a dig at america (this time) Im just curious. I mean, don't they have a say in what goes on there now?

Just a side note. I do not call a 13 year old child being stoned to death and whipped justice... I call it an act of sheer brutality and evil. I know she is in the wrong to an extent but shes just a child.

Funny. I didn't realize that meant rape.

Yes, this is horrible.

However, it is a culture, just like ours in some ways and severely different in others. But nevertheless, it's still a culture and we can not really judge it as it often is conflicting to ours.

It's also a culture with roots far deeper than our own that has lasted for thousands of years longer than ours.

You have to remember that Western culture was born of the same rules and that our predecessors have done just as hideous things. Simply pointing and saying that this makes Muslims bad is a rather ethnocentric take to the whole situation.

Aye, but they've been doing this sorta thing since even before Islam, as such, what right does a Westerner(who has done far far worse) have to say that something like this isn't what is supposed to happen, given that most Western Societies never had to go through the same stuff. It's just the way a society developes. As long as they keep it within their own borders, we really have no right to pass judgement.
Also, someone said Islam is Barbaric, well, guess what, MOST if not ALL faiths are barbaric. Christianity(Especially Catholicism) even has Cannibalism(ok, so it's symbolic cannibalism, but it is still Cannibalism), and if it hadn't been for Charlesmagne they might still be practicing the Literal version of Cannibalism. After all, it wasn't Islam that brought about the Dark Ages now was it. Christianity put much of the world about 500 years off course in technological advancement, and even that is presumed to be an optimistic estimate.
