We just got an xbox 360, and well I am just curious is it possible to transfer your saved gamed games from the xbox to the 360 or should I just forget it? Also, to get updates to the system do I really need to create an xbox live ID?

datel make a device for you to transfer xbox saves to the 360 i think.

yes to get game updates and console updates and download demos and videos and movies and the movies and tv on demand, yes you need an id.

it is free to set up, you get a month's worth of live gold (you can play online) for free, and then the rest is silver whereby you can do everything i said above (and more) but not play online. gold of course does what silver does just with the playin online bit.

you can still add friends and chat on silver, and play some games online with people in some respects on silver.

i recommend doing it.

it's good to know that silver won't let me play online as I have no desire to play games online whatsoever. Though I am curious as to how the xbox arcade works...do you pay for the games on there and how much...that kind of crap..

from what I understand you get game points for various achievements in your purchased games which you can in turn "spend" on xbox live for downloading new shit like games, movies, or skins/themes for your xbox.

you do get achievement points, see in the thing in my sig, where it has the G? thats my gamerscore. which depending on the achievements in game, depends on how many points you get from it.

for demos of games on the arcades, you get em for free.

the full games cost between 400 and 800 microsoft points, of which you can buy through live using a credit card, or buying a card in stores.

can you use gamerpoints for downloading movies - other content?

as far as i know, gamer points are just 'cool' factor.

gates doesn't really have any fingers in any more, i think he's more like a shareholder with influence. also moore has left so the 360 dept is without a boss right now. he went to EA.

I was reading that the way o get points is to buy them with a credit card...Odd thing is that there are more games in the arcade I would play then there is games for the 360 at the moment. Maybe I should have bought the PS3 instead.

you are right, though there are TWO different types of points.

thats what is confusing people... but i'm not sure why

there are Microsoft points, that you use to buy games (form of currency)

and

there are Gamerpoints which represent how many hard achievements you have unlocked in games you have played.

you get more G points depending on the difficulty of the achievement you have unlocked.
