OK so I got it running n my laptop. I am not sure where I screwed it up, but I cant access Windows anymore through my GRUB or whatever menu when it begins to boot up. I thought I was supposed to be able to.

Also I went by the minimum specs for setting up the system, and only gave it 10Gigs of space for the root and 5 gigs or whatever for the other system memmory or whatever. heh..


is there a way I can access the rest of my 80 Gig ard drive from inside Ubantu? I dont really care if windows is lost, windows blows. I just want to be able to utilize the rest of my HD. Can I redo the partition or anything?

linux doesn't like to read AND write to NTFS alot of the time, so to be able to access your files in both linux and windows, an easy way is put a FAT32 partition with your data in, windows in an NTFS and then set up your linux partition and swap file.

i don't know what ubuntu is like with trying to read and write to ntfs, but i know my slackware based installation will allow me to read my ntfs but not write to it

if you want to read the rest of your hard drive, it's just down to searching through the mounted volumes.

but yeah, after setting up the bootloader you might be able to find the drives a bit better.

As far as I know it can read NTFS , but can't write to it...Bro, if need be I can post my grub file so that you have an idea of what it should look like, or post your coy of it and I will see fi I can help you out with it. Though did you load Windows and Linux on the same drive? If so did you load, Windows then Linux?

Well, what I had decided to do was to nuke the HD and start over. I did actually backup all my files before I ever did anything so i still got everything I need. I just nuked the whole thing right out. And started it fresh with a full HD support of Ubuntu. Best decision ever, its working flawlessly and I got Beryl and AVN running any everything. No errors, got all my codecs and hardware running and its sailing smooth. I am officially a Linux user (on my laptop) although I think I will keep OS X running on my Imac since I really enjoy that. I am completely MS Windows free now though
