this place is wonderful. it is quickly becoming one of my favourite poetry forums. very nice(and interesting) people as well as a great looking layout/colour scheme.

i noticed that there are very few replies made to poetry. many of the poets ask for help, suggestions, or just plain old opinions, but no one seems to leave comments. its too sad.

other than that one problem, i think this place is great just the way it is.

Well that's great, I'm glad you've enjoyed yourself. Also, a big welcome to Darkforum.

The poetry board is undergoing a revamp of sorts. It was getting really kinda lame (cringe). But now some people have left, and new people are coming in and we are trying to breath life into the poetry board, and most especially the smoke room. If you'd like a little 'behind the scenes' check out the thread, "your thoughts in darkforum poetry."

As far as replying to poems and such I think we've basically come to the conclusion that you get what you give. If you are willing to give a decent honest critique of someone's work, find someone else who is, and get it goin'. We can't make people reply, but surely if people see someone new in their thread, hopefully they will be so inclined to check out their work.

okay ... I'll admit it. I'm a bit of a corn dog. Cheesy too I've been told. But what's a good wine without some fine cheese, eh? And yes, I'm Canadian. That means that I worship at the altar of all that is Leonard Cohen. I adore everything from his classic genius hit "Suzanne" to "Dance Me to the End of Love" and everything in between including his "Famous Blue Raincoat" poems and songs. Then there's that other Jewish troubadour Bob Dylan, whose poetry is enigmatic and precise and alluring and surreal and resonant and resplendent all at once. I could sit and listen to Bobby and Joan sing "Farewell Angelina" or "Tangled Up in Blue" for hours. But I'm colouring myself sentimental here. Austerity is also an edge I veer towards and the steely spine of P.K. Page's poetry or Sylvia Plath's raw visceral verses rivets me and compels me to seek a higher muse than the ones I frequent and abuse.

Thanks for letting me share. I want to get to know you, FuckDoll. I think this community holds promise.

Cohen is a badass... poetry wise I lean toward The Beats... get to know me all ya can, I'm cool with that... I even have a poetry thread around here somewhere.

I just thought I'd introduce everyone to Marty McConnell. She's a poet out of NYC. I had the pleasure of helping to book an engagement for her at Spokane Community College. She is absolutely amazing in a live reading. She's often labeled a slam poet, but I don't think that sort of pigeon-holing really does her (or any poet) justice.

I have a couple thoughts... comments regarding them would be appreciated:

-A new Df poetry contest?

-Another poetry workshop?

-A poetry club? (Similar to the book club, but a whole lot easier and the ability to move faster. We would pick poems published by various authors, from various genres, post them to the thread, and discuss what we think of them. Perhaps on a bi-monthly basis)
