That's your big problem JLB, you look at debate like a football game; as something to be won or lost. Being right is most important thing to you when you're debating, because you're constantly trying to 'win.' I'm not sure how much you really trust your sources, but I personally don't trust any source 100%. Considering that, winning or losing an argument becomes pretty moot. If you want to prove how right and smart you are, I suggest taking a shot at being a 'Jeporday!' contestant.

I propose to you that the process of thinking is more important when debating on here than being right or wrong. I suggest that you use less 'competitive' and more respectful language, and give other people's posts a bit more thought. You just might get some in return.

Two small points. Trolls shouldn't have to be blatent, trolling itself is against ze rules, it shouldn't matter if they respect the rest (obviously there should be a bit of give and take though).

Secondly, ignoring them only works on a personal level, you can almost always expect someone to bite, plus a determined troll can simply flood the forum with threads (for example posting right wing articles with two sentences, you don't even have to read the article to make the sentences if you know what kind of articles come from a particular source), I don't believe having someone on ignore can change this, fair enough you can skip those threads, but you shouldn't have to.

Well, to go completely off-topic and not make the point I'm guessing you're probably making (not that I know what that is), irony is often confused with contradiction scenarios, like the song 'ironic' by Alanis Morrisette where she says "Ten thousand spoons when you need a knife", that isn't ironic, it would be more ironic if she had ten thousand spoons when she needed a knife, but later discovered a spoon would have been sufficient.

I think you're allowed to use ignore though (I do too, the last 'discussion' I participated in was just me seeing what all the fuss was about first hand, 'though I already figured it out) unless you have to investigate a reported post.

yeah, I do utilize 'ignore' on this one... I've stated that if someone on my ignore list wandered into poetry, sports, or stories (lol) that I would still check out their posts. (And actually I would especially check out their posts, as I do have them on ignore for a reason.)

For your information, I do care if I'm right. I care more that what I think is right might not be, and what I think is wrong might be right, hence the debate, consideration of other opinions, thought process, etc. It's just so much harder to do with someone like you. Hard enough to make it not worth it, in fact.

I cannot put anyone on ignore as I am a Forum Wide Moderator..... I have done so once though because I myself was warned in Religion due to a little flamefest I had gotten into inadvertantly with a fanatical christian..... I needed a cool down period

The hard part about determining who is a Troll and who is not is that some people like to provoke heated debate(((Acceptable))) and some just liek to provoke people(((Unacceptable))).... so I look rather for blatant Trolling and as such cannot have it repudiated by the rest of our lovely staff here at DF plus it makes it a certain thing rather than ambiguous.....

Do not worry..... we here at DF are watching and will act at the first blatant observation of innappropriate behaviour....

Says the person who showed up on the day JLB was temporarily banned, states agreements to whatever JLB says, says things akin to what JLB normally would say, and even goes so far as to share a signature that JLB once had.

My signature just was photoshopped for me by a friend of mine, and I just put it up yesterday. I've already stated that I have come from the same site as JLB, along with Sixgun and dgg9, and have known them all for years.
