| Top 3 Reasons NOT to watch Anime -
01-20-06
3. The plotlines are weak. That's right.. find the sacred gem so you can imbue yourself with super powers which will ultimately lead to your destruction but only after you've redeemed yourself by saving Princess Jagljadgjienngkjakjkjhono.
2. The dubbing. I get irritated when newscasts are just a fraction off on the dubbing. And occasionally you'll see a stellar one straight off the boat where the translation is so terrible, the lines don't make sense.
1. 13 year old girls and men who wish they were Japanese watch it. You know the types.. long hair. The token goatee. They wear those shirts.. the short-sleeved ones that button and have some dragon picture and try to impress eachother by talking about the most obscure Japanese imports. Nothing against those people. Everyone has their opinion. I just personally prefer not to associate with them.
In short, I don't understand what the big deal is with anime. People are FANATICAL about this crap. Why? In Memory of the Busby Babes :

Honestly, I think that if this same crap were spewed out by American studios, and Japan had nothing to do with it, not as many people would watch it. Losers are attracted to the whole Japanese thing for some reason, as is evident by their overuse of words like "baka" and "kawaii."

lovely stereotyping (not to mention gross exaggeration), guys...
as for your "points," wicked:
3. anime is a medium with varying degrees of quality and depth, just like any other medium. pointing to some piece of shit series like pokemon and saying all anime has weak plotlines is stupid.
2. dubbing... most dubs are horrible, but there are quite a few gems out there... and it's also the reason why anime DVDs usually include both dubbed and subtitled versions. and what are you reffering to with "newscasts?"
1. while i'm sure there are people you describe here that exist, they are not even a fraction of the anime watcher. most people who watch and buy anime are as average as anyone (i know as i SELL it to them in job#2), so i suggest you do some more research. of course, that would mean you'd have to associate with them on some level and, since you don't want to do that apparently on principle, would be a little hard. ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. cosplay's a whole'nuther culture... to paraphrase that texas idiom.
and, as a side note, most of the people in there don't look fat, most don't have long hair, the girls look older than 13, and i can't comment on their sexual preferance. ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Yeah because Cos play has absolutely nothing to do with Anime, those people just invented random costumes that so happen to look like anime characters from various cartoons.

Some anime is good, but since it got super popular they seem to be churning out crap.
I do love me some Fist of the North Star, 3x3 eyes, VHD, Wicked City, Lodoss War, and Doomed Megalopolis, the originals, not any of remakes of the aforementioned series. But I'm a casual fan who only watches em when they appear interesting.
Then again, I also play Role Playing Games and spend most of my time at my computer, so nerdism is not unfamiliar.

Why don't you lose the attitude? No one said your name or attacked you in any way. So leave my "points" out of quotation marks, and don't talk down to me. If someone had said to you what you just said to me, there'd be a warning going out.
Anyway, I agree with antihero. For some reason all things Japanese are cool. And it's a trend that I've just now started noticing in the last 6 of 7 years. Not saying it hasn't been around.. only that I didn't notice.
Look at how much the Japanese influence the entertainment industry. Not only do they supply the equipment, but they supply the majority of the ideas. Movies, video games, television shows.
We didn't have shows like Hi, Hi Puffy Ami Yumi when I was a kid. I was just down with Rainbow Brite. In Memory of the Busby Babes :
