Actually the Potato famine was caused by the "little ice age" and the combination of evil English landlords and British control of Ireland. See the Irish also had large flocks of sheep and barley grain and other food sources that were all being taken by the English to fund thier wars in India and elsewhere.

The famine woulda still happend but not as bad if the English didnt feed it by starving the Irish.

As someone who lived in the UK for four years, I can assure you that racial tensions and violence in the UK isn't as rosy a picture as the English would have you believe. They have their issues but it's focused more on the Asians than on the blacks. If there's anything that i've learned from living in or visiting many different countries is that every country has their nigger. When I was in Germany it was the Turks. When I was in the middle east, it was the Phillipino's. No place is immune to the negative side of humanity, no place.

As to my alleged rant about the potato famine, I'm of course talking to the fact that the British were able to provide enough food to Ireland during the great famine, but the Irish Catholic Church had placed threats of excomunication on those who sided with the protestants. It's not the sole cause if you include the cholera epidemic

Back to topic My comments on the lack of tensions and in some support of what wysiwyg said is yes there are tensions, however you don't see the million man march or anyhting even vaugely similar in the UK. this is surely indicative of a lesser tension if admitedly still extant. Mobilisation of hostility which usually comes fom more ingrained tension.

Uhh the English didnt provide enough food? what kind of revisionism is that bullshit? The only "food" they provided was a SLIGHT decrease in demand on Irish domestic items. THe majority of the food and wool was being taken BY the BRITISH for thier armies. THe Irish starved because the majority of thier goods were being taken by the occupying force. If they just let the Irish keep what they grew they wouldnt have starved. There was a reason the Irish diet consisted of a single fucking item. Potatos. and it wasnt because there was a lack of other food originally in Ireland, it was because the rest of the food and materials were taken by the British empire.

But I take billy's point that discrimination is a two way street and whereas for the past 40 years the notion that being white is better then being anyhting else has been Dimissed as being rubbish and white supremacy has been put down.
