I tried to play with my dog this afternoon and he started crying. I found this weird bruise in his armpit, with lots of swelling, and thought he was bitten by something and didn't think much of it. I gave him an ibuprofin for the pain.

A few hours later I noticed some swelling on his neck. MAJOR swelling, so I called my mom and told her and took him to an emergency clinic. They shaved the bulge on his neck to check for trauma, because it didn't look like it was connected to the one in his armpit at all.

They tested his blood and said that he had gotten into some rat poison. And that it takes about 4-5 days to kick in. He's going to get a plasma transfusion and has to take vitamin K for 30 days.

My mom's paying for it, $500.

I feel so bad for letting him out.

well its much better that you found him in time.I hate the idea of an animal suffering like that. My sis once had a dog that got into the closet,and took a spray bottle of all prupose cleaner with it,and I guess,it sucked out the cleaner fluid.We found its stiff body in the closet.

I know how you feel. One of our cats drank some leaked antifreeze from a neighbor's car. I found him flopping around and frothing at the mouth in the alley behind our house. He died while we were in the waiting room at the vet.

it's not your fault, don't feel bad. Someone is trying to kill him.

Rat posion smells bad to a dog and they won't tought in normally. Someone fed it to him in meat to mask the smell.

either that or it is just a real stupid dog that ate it anyways.
