There's actually a lot of historical significance to the Bible. Most of it can be explained away with modern science and knowledge. But in that time, anything that couldn't be figured out had to be the work of some deity. So take the Bible as what it is.. a book with some truthfull basis and a whole lot of religious hype and mythical speculation.
