how much is a dislocated elbow? - 07-31-04

over six thousand dollars!

believe it or not, our total sum of bills for our three year old dislocating her tiny elbow is...6066 for the part where they had to anesthesize her to put it in properly, 450 for the first visit for them to "think" she broke her arm, seven hundred and something for the second visit they called us back about a misdiagnosis...95 dollars for one doctor to tell us it was fractured and needed to take her to another doctor that specialized in such injuries..the outrageous part of this...twelve dollars for 150 ml of water?

what's up with the medical community these days...and the sad fact is since bush has been president, we can't afford over five hundred a month for health insurance(more than our rent)...isn't america great?

i think health care costs so much because the government is really a puppet institution run by an alien race, and the aliens want the human race to be extinguished, so they can pave over our planet and build an ENORMOUS shopping plaza.

Either that, or our society is completely fucking insane, and pays professional athletes tens of millions of dollars while allowing some cancer victim in Bumfuck, Idaho to die because she can't afford to live. Sick.

I can answer it with 3 words. Lawyers and juries.

Malpractice decisions go like this:
$20,000 (or whatever) for missed work time
$1,000,000 (or whatever) if the patient is unable to perform his job anymore
$20,000,000 for pain and suffering

Then the lawyer takes 50% of that last item. Juries approve of this because of the rampant class warfare attitude in this country. They think they're "sticking it to the big evil insurance company". Corporations can't print their own money, so that money has to come from somewhere.

The lawyers and juries take it from the malpractice insurance companies, which aren't the same companies you get your car insurance from.

The malpractice insurance companies raise premiums on doctors and hospitals to cover their costs.

The doctors and hospitals raise prices on everything to cover the skyrocketing malpractice premiums.

The health insurance companies raise premiums to cover the increased cost of services.

And that's why YOU can't afford health insurance.

It's so bad in some states that doctors are leaving the state entirely because it's becoming impossible to do business.

It doesn't have a damn thing to do with Bush. This problem has been growing for years. In fact republicans, at the state and federal level, have been trying to fix the problem by limiting "pain and suffering" damages to six figure numbers. In some states it's been successful. At the federal level you can't get anything through without 60 senators agreeing.

Take a guess which party the opponents are from.

And of course their opposition has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the Association of Trial Lawyers is the single largest contributor to the Democratic party. No connection there at all. Nothing to see here folks, just move along.

Malpractice is a crock of shit.

To acutally sue a doctor you have to basically have a limb cut off by mistake, have a big enough permenate injury or wind up dead.
I am currently trying to sue the hell out of a hospital and doctor but because I didn't die or am crippled most malpractice lawyers won't take the case.
Unless you have a ironclad case worth over a million it isn't worth their time. God forbid if it's a state run hospital, then you can't, repeat cannot sue!

Most doctors now adays are part of a program which limits the right of a person who tries to sue them. If enrolled with the state program you can't sue, and only have your medical bills and all future medical bills paid, if they are related to the injury.

It's not a matter anymore of if a doctor and/or hospital fuck you or your child up, all that matters is if they didn't fuck you up bad enough you have no case.

Someone remind me what exactly is bad enough if it is in reguard to your own child's injuries????

So far this kid replies using only pictures. I'm not impressed. Assinik's are way funnier.

funny, to have a cesarean under the clinton administration, it was just a little under 3000,for everything, and that's a major surgery...however we were able to afford healthcare back than, it wasn't until after bush took office things started to go bad for us financially, became more difficult to get assistance and generally a spiral down for us poor people...it's so bad my husband has had to take to the road to make money...

in a time when they are preaching marriage for family values, to survive it there can be no traditionaly marriage, either both parents work, or one parent is gone to work...all the time.

bush cares more for his precious iraq than his fellow americans...that decision came from raising a family in his world.

you may say it's not bushes fault, but i'm seeing when this started versus when things were...nice.

i think it may be better under a socialist society...aren't they the ones that provide healthcare for all, or is that a more communistic approach?...apparantly it doesn't matter what form of government you have, eventually a tyrant comes to rule it all...so why not choose a form that's most able to help all rather than those with the most money?

maybe democracy is the problem...but maybe that's getting abused...electronic voting, what a joke!

Well. If you have any experiences with hospitals, they routinely admit people who have minor injuries in order for them to get the "bed costs". It's capitalism. If you're injured, most people consider it serious. One of the worst problems that we do have in our current system is the amount of people who abuse the system. I don't see where socializing it would help at all. What we need to do is put restrictions on what these companies (better yet..extortionists) are doing.

Yes, I realize that doctors are overpaid. Yes, I realize that if just one child is saved, then maybe that atrocious number we pay out to that certain % on Medicaid that completely waste everyone's resources and time is worth it.

Until we actually put restrictions on pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals, it will keep getting worse and worse. They know your kid/spouse/loved one/yourself is going to die/stay stick, so they proceed to fuck you in the ass unmercifully.

Malpractice (against Doctors) is the biggest load of crap. Wow, you send my child home to die. At most (at least in MO, MS firsthand) you will only get 250k to 500k. That's how much a life is worth. You defend that. Defend it. Your baby is sent home with a staph infection that kills the growth plate in her leg just because the hospital didn't feel like treating it and now one leg is considerably shorter than the other. Defend your child only getting 250k and dealing with that the rest of their life.

On this issue, Democrats, Republicans..it's all the same. Money is power. It will never change.

pessimist...

but you're probably right, it's just frustrating that we work so much, and can't afford to take our children to a doctor if we need too...they should make it easier and more affordable to get them medical attention.

just another insurance we have to pay to protect ourselves...now i'm feeling all pessimistic

thanks vero...

I'm not being pessimistic. I was just being realistic. Yes, we need to do something so that normal people (Ie not millionaires) who do not get health insurance can support their sick children. It's almost like hard working Americans are being penalized b/c they do actually work while those who don't are encouraged. It's disheartening.
