I think everyone has missed a rather blatant point. Attraction, or attractiveness is a matter of perception. Different people find different things attractive. Some guys DO like fat girls, some girls DO like fat guys. Some guys see the super skinny dolled up high maintenance chick and want to vomit, while some will do everything they can to get her number.

The important thing is to be who you want to be and be happy with it. Then you can search for somebody who likes you, and is attracted to you, the way you are. They're out there if you look hard enough. It would be bullshit to get involved with somebody who wants you to change right off the bat. It would also be not good to put on an act for somebody, make them think you're somebody you're not, and have to live with lies and bullshit.

Only to a small degree, such as a burnettes-over-blondes. Many things are universal. Men the world over are attracted to large eyes and the same hip-to-waist ratio, for examle. Women are attracted to symmetry and actually experience more orgasms with more symmetrical males.

Some men and women may say they're attracted to fat guys/girls, but I doubt their sincerity; I tend to think they're (at least trying) to fool themselves and everyone else into believing that they're not settling or acting out of desperation.

Personally I think the whole 'matter of perception' line is an insult to people who frighten children and make them cry with nothing more than their physical appearance.
