As I've already stated in another thread, I really, really dig this idea for a Darkness collective publication. Before it hits the ground running though, once an editorial staff has been established, they might want to first get some basic groundwork laid out before being buried under an avalanche of submissions. For starters:

Guidelines!

What topic matter do you want in book? What don't you want? What's the page limit on stories? On poems?

For that matter, how many pages are you shooting for? That will certainly tend to set down how long the pieces will be, and how many from one artist will actually enter the books.

What sort of format do you want submissions sent in on? Just posted here on DF, or via e-mail?

Also remember that part of your page count is going to go to front matter: table of contents, introductions, legal blahblah...

Costs

Publishing ain't cheap. Legends, our college L&A journal, ran up a bill of $8000+ this past year for a print job of 500 copies (the journal itself was 100 pages in length.) A large chunk of that cost was simply the paper itself. We picked out some high-grade paper, it looks great and feels real nice under the fingertips, but overall we could have gotten away with a lot less cost for cheaper-grade paper. That price range also only got us 8 pages devoted to color art... Certain things like flysheets and cover embellishment make for a classy-looking publication, but really jack up the cost.

Just a few basic stepping stones you might want to look at first before you jump into it. It looks like Dyshade has put forth some good info as far as publishing goes.

I think if we all stay supportive it'll be a fun and unique experience for all and done correctly~patiently~ may turn out even profitably

Thanx for the words pal and hope U'll hang and give us more of ure advices, maybe even some contributions hehehe how about that bro? huh, cumon get some up there, and as for the configurations I'm keepin it open at the moment this is a learn as we go experience, my instincts say do not limit the project yet, lets first see what we turn

I suggest we wait to see how many submissions we get and keep tossing ideas out there.... give it a couple weeks for the submissions and than have the judges pick at the very least one submission from each person in each category.... possibly two but first we need to see how many submissions we get total....

Story length should not really go over a total of 3-5Pages at the most... shorter would probably be better....

For poems i would suggest one page but if it is a wonderful poem that the Judges all love and agree on we could go a little longer....
All submissions will be made here.... when we get to the formatting I am thinking Aeternus can format it on a PDF file... this will be after the Editors themselves have reviewed all poetry,stories, and visual contributions for errors and corrected them.....
