The story of the Screaming Skull of Bettiscombe starts in 1685 when Azariah Pinney joined the Monmouth Rebellion in an attempt to overthrow the Catholic King of England, James II. The forces of the Duke of Monmouth were quickly crushed and were set to be either executed or exiled for treason. Azariah was spared from a death by hanging because his sister bribed the Chief Judge to have him exiled instead. Azariah was sent to West Indies as a slave at the age of 24.
Azariah's grandson, John Frederick Pinney, was able to return to his ancestral house in Bettiscombe, a hamlet in Dorset, England. He brought along with him a slave, "Old Bettiscombe", from the West Indies. Not much was known about Old Bettiscombe's life in West Indies. He died shortly after arriving in England and pleaded to his owner to bury him back in his home land. Instead, Old... [Read More]

A 19 year old girl dancing with her boy friend suddenly burst into flames. Her back and head was enveloped in fire. Her fellow-party goers tried to pat out the flames but with in minutes all that was left of her were ashes. "I saw no one smoking on the dance floor. There were no candles on the tables and I did not see her dress catch fire from anything. I know it sounds incredible, but it appeared to me that the flames burst outwards, as if they originated within her body", her boyfriend later testified at the inquest. The coroner labeled her case as, "Death by misadventure, caused by a fire of unknown origin."

Welcome to the Darkforum Best Movies of the year awards thread. Just a month left till we reach the even number goodness of 2008. We need to choose the best movies of the year according to members of Darkforum.com
Think back to the beginning of 2007 and decide what your favorite movies were. Create a top 10 list and then post it in this thread. Make sure you follow the following rules:
The movie MUST have been released to the majority of audiences in 2007. If there was a limited released in 2006 and then a public release in 2007 then it may be included in the list. Check The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) to confirm.
Depp is "Sweeny Todd", a man deprived of his family and unjustly sent to prison, who emerges to seek revenge on those responsible for his fate. He is the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who 'shaved heads of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard from again.'
Mr.Lovett, played by Helena Bonham Carter of Fight Club fame, is Sweeny's amorous accomplice who creates diabolical meat pies (you have to get rid of the bodies somehow...).
The female role in philosophy/mythology/religion has always fastinated me. I would like to hear about the ones you like the most and perhaps a bit of information about them as well.
Pictures would be interesting too.
The dog-star, Sirius, is the brightest star visible from the northern hemisphere of Earth. This star has been known to humans since thousands of years as it is quite easy to spot in the sky. What to the eye appears as a single star is actually a binary star system, consisting of a white main sequence star of spectral type A1V, named Sirius A, and a faint white dwarf companion of spectral type DA2, named Sirius B. The reason for its brightness is not its intrinsic luminosity but its closeness to earth; at a distance of 2.6 pc or 8.6 light years, Sirius is one of our near neighbors. Sirius A is only about twice as massive as the Sun and, with an absolute magnitude of 1.42, has far less intrinsic luminosity than Canopus or Rigel.

Researchers noticed that Sirius does not move like most other planets. There were
