Go back and look at that map again, the "blue" states are mostly red when one looks at the counties. Just a few urban areas are blue.

These urban areas are where you're going to find a more packed group of the population. Often a bigger ratio of the population than the rest of all the rural counties in that state put together. This is also where your more likely to find a more diverse/more educated group of people... Which would explain why they're blue. Look at New York for example. On another note real quick... Don't you find it a little funny that the very areas that got attacked on 9/11 overwhelmingly trusted Kerry to protect they're security more than Bush?

I think they're burying their heads in the sand, to the extent that they were even thinking about security.

Explain

The areas that were hit on 9/11 were heavily democratic. Those were the people that were already more inclined to put education, healthcare, tax cuts for the wealthy etc. etc. ahead of foreign policy. All Kerry had to do was give a little lip service to the security issue to get those people back in the democrat camp.

Actually I live IN New York, so I can more readily gauge how/why something happened.

Believe me when I say that New York has suffered heavily under Bush's existence as President.

1. Layoffs/Firings - I've seen more jobs become lost than jobs become made in the past four years.
2. Education - Schools are struggling by with children who are highly psychotic, violent and often unable to understand the concept of morales because of piss awful parents. These same schools are on the verge of closing, have lost NURSES and are even having issues with Sports related afterschool crap.
3. Government Support - Where is it? I don't know, and guess what? Neither do the people who work for the government. They were supposed to get assistance from Bush, yet they did not.

And by the way, sour, if you notice on the map how in New York there's that one spot with blue near the west-north-west section? It's called, I do believe, Wyoming county(I hate county names, I'm in Livingston which, gag, supported Bush). Within it is Rochester, one of the major population centers of Western New York. It's kind of like a mini-Buffalo, and where the Fast Ferry was going to be.
