SARASOTA -- John Coffin won't spend any more time in jail for beating up two sheriff's deputies inside his house, striking one in the head with a Taser gun he took from the other. Circuit Judge Rick De Furia said at Coffin's trial Tuesday that he doesn't condone the violence against the deputies. Good outcome. It's not difficult for a cop to get a warrant. Without one they can't do this shit.

I agree its not difficult to get a warrant, especially considering recent changes to law (regarding patriot act).

but cops who think they are above the law are the worst criminals... its fucking disgusting.

The problem with warrants is that sometimes you need them NOW, you dont have time to get the Judge out of bed at 3 am to come down and write one up. So sometimes, it is difficult to get a warrant.

That doesnt mean i think they should be able to bust in without one. Just giving a little perspective.

The current standard, I believe, is that they have to have probable cause that someone is being hurt or in imminent danger of it, to just burst into someone's home without a warrant, which is a good standard. It doesn't apply when you're just serving papers.

Recently in SLC they found that Officers were in the wrong when they used marijauna smoke as probable cause to bust into a house. They said that the mere smell of marijauna does not give the cops the right to bust into a private residence.

i just think its awesome a 56 year old pulled a taser off a cop and shot another cop with it in the head. that's confidence and determination.

I am proud to call that man an American, people have become so afraid of the police that it has almost become a police state, and the fucked up thing is we are willingly giving up our rights in the name of fear and the "war on terror". I am not saying that this is being imposed on us, but I do think we are gently guided toward it.

my thoughts on police are:

dont let them see you shake
dont talk to them
keep moving

I try and steer clear of the police, no matter what the siltation.

I cant stand the cops... im not saying they are ALL bad, but ive had enough personal experiences to know that lots of them are.

they've seen enough shit to see through my shit. they are therough indivisuals. they dont stop untill they know what's going down and they will jail you. i dont want to deal with that.

no shit. i live up the street from a cop. they pay for him to live here. he serves his purpose, i live close to a ghetto, but its not, in fact not one black lives in the neighborhood (im not saying something about the blacks, but the ones that live down the road are the type you dont want to run into at 2 in the morning) ive never seen this cop with a women, in 2 years. there is a dude who stays over at his house a good 3 to 4 nights a week.

I worked in a police deapartment for 2 years. My stepdad is a cop, i grew up around em my whole life. I LIKE cops, they tend to be sarcastic funny guys. You have to realize that when you deal with nothing but the dregs of society all day every day, you just naturally tend to expect the worst out of people.

bah, you make excuses... these men are held to a higher standard for a reason.

yet somehow every douche bag who was a bully in high school is now a bully with a badge and gun for 35k a year. its fucking bullshit, I think cops should be held to the same rigorous testing and retesting as doctors. I mean, they hold your life in their hand... or even more importantly your freedom. I think they should be paid alot more, and the selection should be more exclusive. I think it should cost alot of money for them to attend the police academy, but the debt should be comp'd by the city upon graduation.
