When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

There is no theory. Christianity sees Jesus as gods earthly avater living a life of paramount justice and love while the old testement god goes aorund rampaging and slaying and being perpetually annoyed.

Although it is a fair argument to say that as a divine entity on earth Jesus could look as he chose, wouldn't it have been someehat worrying if he didn't look like his mother and adoptive father. Afterall the crime for adultary was stoning to death. Jesus having blond hair and blue eyes would raise questions about the roamn soldiery. A crime of sex out of wedlock also carried the penalty of stoning to death.

Needless to say, Mary was never stoned to death!

You think Jesus was God?

As to what Jesus looked like, I am willing to admit that I do not know. Will these so-called "scientists" admit to the same thing?

Since you are unable to define "theroy" I will do it for you:
Quote:
Main Entry: the·o·ry
Pronunciation: 'thE-&-rE, 'thi(-&)r-E
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -ries
Etymology: Late Latin theoria, from Greek theOria, from theOrein
Date: 1592
1 : the analysis of a set of facts in their relation to one another
2 : abstract thought : SPECULATION
3 : the general or abstract principles of a body of fact, a science, or an art <music theory>
4 a : a belief, policy, or procedure proposed or followed as the basis of action <her method is based on the theory that all children want to learn> b : an ideal or hypothetical set of facts, principles, or circumstances; often used in the phrase in theory <in theory, we have always advocated freedom for all>
5 : a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain phenomena <wave theory of light>
6 a : a hypothesis assumed for the sake of argument or investigation b : an unproved assumption : CONJECTURE c : a body of theorems presenting a concise systematic view of a subject <theory of equations>
synonym see HYPOTHESIS

You will note that the explaination talks of "speculation" and of "conjecture" but that it does not equate "theory" to "fact," other than to expalin that facts are sometimes used to FORMULATE a theory. In short, a theory is not necessarily a fact.

Now, since you have reduced yourself to name calling, you would do us all great service to abstain from participating in this "debate." :mofo:

Actually, your God, if your God IS God, hasn't changed at all. Only your CONCEPT of God has changed.

If you are referring to the suit before the Supreme Court on the Pledge, I think that it was Mr NEWDOW who brought the suit, not the government.

people define god, so god would change depending on the needs of people. Or are you suggesting you know god personally?

If you had read what she wrote, she included the words "Christianity believes that..." not "I believe that."

No, I do not "know" God personally.

I am pointing out that God, if God exists, is an unchanging entity--at least as far as we are concerned. And if God does NOT exist, then where is the potential for change?

Of course, if you want to say that God does in fact exist, but is nothing more that a figment of every person'e imagination, then that is different.

Is that what you are trying to say?

Does Christianity believe that Jesus is God?

I have not heard that.

Jesus did not say that he was God.

Who says that Jesus is God?

And again, how would anyone know what he looked like? Do we have pictures? All I have seen are artists conceptions of what THEY thought Jesus MIGHT look like.

Why does God, if it exists, have to be unchanging?

On that note, however, I did a search for 'Jesus "I am God"' and came up with an interesting hit showing how Jesus never claimed to be God in the Bible.

Because he would have perfect knowledge and therefore change is unnecessary.

Of course, that does not mean that he COULDN'T change if he wanted to, but so far he has not informed us that he has, so he either is the same as always, or if he has changed, we don't know about it.

Well all 43,100 hits are in error.

Jesus never said he was God. He said that he was the SON of God.

See above.

Which supports the notion that it is not God that changed, it is man's CONCEPT of God that has changed.

So you say, but I fail to see where your definition of god is THE definition for god. YOUR god is perfect, others' are not (Greek gods?).
