| One Billion? -
01-27-04
The next time you hear a politician use the words "billion"
casually, think about whether you want that politician spending your tax
money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one
advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into perspective in
one of its releases:
A billion seconds ago, it was 1959.
A billion minutes ago, Jesus was alive.
A billion hours ago, our ancestors were living in the StoneAge.
A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, the rate
Washington spends it.
The Democrats are complaining on how long the war is taking but
consider this:
It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take
the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.
It took less time to find Saddam's sons in Iraq than it took
Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines
to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy
Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sunk at Chappaquiddick.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes
in Florida!!!!!!
Damn our military is GREAT To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I don't consider our military great, when it's used in a very "bully" style of activity.
And Gargoyle, it's closer to 470 billion than 400. (\ /)

We bullied Afghanistan and Iraq. We've bullied Iraq before, we've bullied countries in Latin America before, and we've done hostile actions against countries in Latin America during the past 100 years quite often.
All in all we've been "Super Bullies".
Also, if you remember even Cheney admits that having a large deficit is not good for the future, and as such this larger than normal deficit is not good for our future at all. If Bush can't cut it in half like he proposes then what will happen later on? (\ /)

The deficit' getting bigger. The Financial Times reported today that it was probably going to be $1,000 billion bigger in 2010 than they had forecasted, mainy due to the new Medicare provisions I think. So let's not talk small money, let's talk trillions!

America is one of the greatest mass murderer's of all time.
Did you forget about what we did to Japan? Did you forget what we did to Iraqi civilians? Did you forget about the fact that America butchered Native Americans? (\ /)

Actually Native Americans had settled down for many years long before Europe wandered on into it. In fact, the Vikings would have had more of a claim to North America than Europe.
By the way, you're pretty much saying the ends justify the means(Japan bombing), as well as that surprise attacks should not be allowed(even when we knew it was going to happen).
The ends NEVER justify the means, no matter what. To say that they do is to give moral ground to that which you should never give, which is what you so constantly despise and hate. (\ /)

I like how you say that we can do whatever we want so long as we're defeating evil.
I suppose this means we can just wander on into every country on the face of the earth that does not bow down to our way of thinking and governmental design, and destroy them, restructure them and leave them to try and survive after such a massive change.
Yup...let's go defeat some evil! We'll start with Canada! (\ /)

Ahhhh I see....so the displacement/decimation of the native population of North America was an example of practical Darwinism....only the strong survive, might makes right....is that what was going on?

Rent - 400 month
Bills - 2000 month
Fun stuff - 100 month
Total per month - 2500
2500 x 12= 30,000
Now those numbers I took are in some parts over what you'd normally pay, and in some parts under..so it's pretty well balanced out. But that's pretty much how much money you need PER YEAR in order to live fine. That's what my sister makes, and she has a hell of an easy time(even if college books cost 150 per book).
Now let's look at this 30k in comparison to say..oh...the 100,000 some people in this world make per year. Or we can look at how microsoft made over 10 billion in the last year alone. Tons of freaking money, and yet these same rich people complain that they don't have enough money, or they go so far as to claim bankruptcy at certain points in their life when they're pretty much completely devoid of money. Where does it all go? Nobody freaking knows, but it proves they don't deserve that money.
The poor, and by poor I mean the truly poor, would benefit greatly from just 20k a year. Let's say we take 1 billion dollars. And then we supply it to every state. 50 total states..sooo
1,000,000,000 / 50 = 20,000,000
20 million to each state. That's a hell of a lot of money. Now some states like Rhode Island are miniscule..and I'm betting if you really broke it down and just supported the totally homeless with some money you'd see a nice boost in at least their appearance.
However, instead of being nice to the bottom of the barrel our society goes so far as to put them in jail, as well as harrass them and abuse the fact that they're desperate for money (\ /)

If we gave anyone who didn't work $30,000 dollars a year then no one would work. You have no sense of how markets and jobs operate. In the former USSR they had massive problems in the 1970s because blue-collar wages were as high as white-collar wages and guaranteed. The result was that people didn't actually bother going to work very much, their economy spluttered and died and they lost the cold war. They are now ALL very poor.
People need incentives to work. The modern state has a duty to make sure that everyone gets by, but it should go no further.

There is only one real incentive to work. Money.
The problem is that jobs are in short supply for some obscure reason, in certain areas of the country, thus adding to the unemployment rate and so on and so forth. (\ /)
