| Oh, "Boo-Hoo!" - Dixie Chicks sales down 42% . . . -
03-27-03
From MTV website this morning-
"The disparaging remarks the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines made about President George W. Bush in London two weeks ago ("Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas ..."), has hit Home, so to speak. In response to outrage from many Bush supporters, the country trio's songs were pulled from several radio stations' playlists, despite Maines' public explanation ("My comments were made in frustration ...") issued almost immediately after the news broke. The controversy took its toll at retail, as sales of Home fell by more than 42 percent, from 123,000 copies to 71,000. The LP, which has resided near the top of the chart for 30 weeks, will slide three spots to #7.
And they said on tV last night they won't apologize anymore. Something to the effect the American people just don't understand.
Or, maybe they DO understand. :hero: To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Pathetic!
Only an idiot buys music because of the musicians opinions.
You should only buy music if you like it not because of some comment someone in the band may have said in a conversation..
This is about as childish as little girls fighting to get the latest single from the most fashionable boyband before their friends, no matter how crap it is.

..ok, what's the point of this thread then?
Should you not have posted something more important than informing us that the Dixie Chicks album has dropped three places?
What has this got to do with politics anyway?

No matter what their opinions are, the Dixie Chicks were just plain stupid to make their comment, and they deserve the drop in sales.
Country music has a long history of supporting America and the soldiers and the President. So when they bash the pres and in effect Texas also, of COURSE country music fans were going to be pissed.
It's as simple as that. If you drink water, your lips will get wet, and if you bash the military/president/Texas/America, country music fans will not support you. ________________________________ | |

I'll bet Willy Nelson feels the same way, but is probably too intelligent to say anything about it too loudly.
It's funny how some music types fit a completely different political spectrum than their audience. Like how most heavy metal acts are conservative. When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

Some Germans are boycotting US products. Whoop de friggin do. Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

So how exactly do you decide who is entitled to an opinion and who isn't?
Is there a disclaimer that famous people sign to relinquish personal opinion?
Or are they still allowed to their opinions but not allowed to speak their minds or answer direct questions truthfully?

Fascism...hmmm...I'd heard something about that somewhere...
In any case, everyone has to get some flack for their beliefs, I suppose, the same flack we give Six and vice-versa. I think that the people who are so close-minded that they can't see past these remarks are pretty stupid, but I learned long ago that not everyone in this nation can be held to the same standards of intelligence. Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

I have no personal problem's with those that support the war.
However, when they start saying that I should support the war or be silent, that's a different story . . .
A wise person once told me: "My rights end where your's begin."
I'm not infringing upon anyone's rights by saying that the war is a bad idea, but I have people loudly and violently advocating that I should be stripped of my rights for expressing my dissent. Is that right? That's not Democracy that's a facist dictatorship.
I think our founding fathers would be shocked and horrified by that, as would the Iraqi people. Can you imagine trying to explain that concept to people who understand intimatly what it means to be under terrible oppression? "Let me get this straight. These people have the freedom to speak out against the ruling governement . . . Yet some of them are eagerly throwing that right away? What in the name of God is wrong with these people?" It would be like a starving person in a third world country learning about Bulimia and Anorexia.
However, then again maybe they would just sigh, shake their heads and say: "Sadly, we have people like that here in Iraq as well, we call them the Republican Guard." de vagorum ordine dico vobis iura

What I can't stand is how people can't separate Anti-War from Anti-Troop Support... Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...
