If you are a white politician you have to deal with skirting around racial issues ALL the time. The exact opposite is not true for any minority. They are expected to hug racial issues and are never demonized for it. If a black man demonizes a white man everyone just bows their head and lets the poor black man have his say because he deserves it right. But god help the whitge man that demonizes any minority. His career and any hopes of furthering it will be completely gone. If a white political rep. were to say that his grandma spouted racial rhetoric and that is why he let slip the nigger word or belongs to a white seperatist church he would be tarred and feathered.
The racial disparity in this country comes from coddling the minorities out of fear that you will be seen as a hate monger and a racist. Its bullshit. Fuck political correctedness. Call a spade a spade and speak the truth of your heart. If someone is a racist it does not matter what color they are they are fucking racist. Obama is racist. Simple.

Yes but a white politician isn't going to be confronted for the fact that they are white. There has been nothing racial in what Obama has said and if you see it that way then you're looking way too hard. You're taking this to an absolutely ridiculous extent and I'm going to have to excuse myself from this discussion before I say horrid things that will tempt a ban and I wouldn't mean outside of this conversation anyway.

That speech by Obama was as big a lie as McCain claiming to be a conservative. Both of them are saying those things because they have to. This year we've had the biggest bunch of liars running for president that I've ever seen in my life. They make Nixon, Dubya, and even Bill Clinton look like amateurs.

That little line about their own complicity in their misfortunes, and the lack of reaction to it says a lot to me. Look at how Bill Cosby has been maligned since he started speaking out about the self-inflicted problems of his race. There won't be a negative reaction from the loud mouthed blacks because they know he's saying what he has to say to keep getting white votes. When a black politician actually believes that the members of his own race should be treated equally, not preferentially, they throw Oreo cookies at him.

His entire campaign is racial. Just because he doesn't say its racial doesn't mean it isn't. The fact that his campaign members label anyone who disagrees with him as a racist is pretty evident. His "race" or should I say Racist speech was a pretty good indication of how racist he is and will be.

Its there, seeing it isn't looking to hard, not seeing it, is giving him a pass because you don't want to be called a racist by other white liberals. News Flash you are a racist if you're patting Obama on the head and pretending he is above racism etc.

This place is not quite as strict as you might remember it. It has actually been a long time since we have done any Bans based purely on hostile posts.

If our premise is that everyone is a little racist, and Obama is no exception, why should he be punished for it? That means that thousands of white, black, hispanic, and other politicans were racist before. Admit it - if he weren't a black man running for president, this wouldn't ever come up.

White people don't get called on the carpet because of their race because their whiteness is a societal NORM! They pander to ethnic groups because they need their votes, yes, but they are not specifically questioned regarding their whiteness. To hold Obama in a different light because he IS being specifically questioned regarding his blackness is absolutely ridiculous.

As far as wrangling the black vote vs. other ethnic groups (probably excepting Hispanics, who are also pandered to)...

The example of New Orleans that the article's author gave actually works well for this. It is true that the African-American community spoke out long and loud about the situation with Hurracane Katrina. It is also true, as the article states, that there was little reaction (at least in the media) from the Vietnamese people in the area. The problem with this comparison is that the Vietnamese-Americans are such as small minority. They have no powerful figures in the media to speak for them. Whoever kept quiet did so not necessarily because they chose to suck it up and move on, but also because the simply had no one to speak for them.

But we can't pretend that the only people that white politicians pander to are black. Hispanics operate in much the same way and face many of the same problems. This article doesn't talk about that, but it is still true. Of course, Hispanics weren't enslaved by this country, so its harder to toss it aside as the whinings of a people bent on remembering the past. We as observers just ignore it instead.

You generalize too much, focus on non-absolutes based on your personal assumptions, and attempt to speak for every white American. That annoys me.

Actually, I'm speaking for most white Democrat politicians who run on a national level, as that's what we're discussing, not most white people.

That is exactly my premise. Like it or not, America is Balkanizing. It's a slow process, but it's inexorable. He should be punished for it for the sake of consistancy when you consider all the guilt that the media and the left heap on whites who had nothing to do with any evil of the past, and excuse bad behavior by blacks who never suffered any evil of the past. In an interview a few days ago, Obama described his grandmother as "a typical white woman" who has racism bred into her.

Try to imagine the hell from above that would descend on a white republican who ever said "a typical black person" in any context.



Before November, highly placed members of the political, newsmedia, and entertainment fields will be suggesting that anyone who votes for McCain must be a racist, and those comments will be widely broadcast.\
